Winter may be dull, but your outfits needn’t be, thanks to this season’s key shoe colour.

Hands up if you’re already bored of 3.45pm sunsets. But while the days may be slightly gloomy, our outfits certainly don’t have to be.

First we had fun with the Barbie pink that swept across everything from dresses to jumpers; now, it’s all about fiery red. It’s the colour of the season, and every designer – including Stella McCartney, Ferragamo and Tory Burch – put the punchy shade on the runway for autumn/winter 2023. The thing is, like pink, it can make quite the statement. For those who are colour-shy and tend to stick to a neutral palette, this can be daunting, to say the least.

So how do you try out this season’s most-loved colour without going top-to-toe like the catwalks? The secret is red shoes.

A colour-pop shoe, boot or trainer is the easiest way to dip your toe into the trend, quite literally. And let us tell you, there is no shortage of incredible red shoes on offer this season. There’s something about a statement shoe that can instantly liven up even the simplest of looks. Wearing baggy jeans? Add a red slingback party shoe. Styling a slouchy suit for the office? Just throw on a pair of coloured trainers. It really is the fashion hack to know right now, so we’ve rounded up nine of the best red shoes to try out.
