How do you wear Barbiecore pink without feeling like a kid? Let’s break it down…
If you looked at my wardrobe, you’d see that I’m a neutrals girl. I used to wear top to toe black, but these days I’ve widened my colour palette to include khaki, white and camel. Wild, I know.
But last summer – surely inspired by Valentino’s Pink PP autumn/winter 2022 show – I bought a bright bubblegum pink linen co-ord, which has to go down as one of my absolute best purchases of all time. Sure, the cut, style and fabric had a lot to do with it, but I’m sure it was the vibrant hue that had people stopping me in the street to ask where they could get one too (Aligne, FYI).
The impending release of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie has seen Barbiecore rise to fever pitch, and pink is starting to feel like a new neutral. And I am here for it. Emboldened by my pink hit last year, I’m ready to bring more poppy pieces into my wardrobe.
My one rule? Each piece should be clean-lined and grown up, nothing fussy or frilly. Then you can either wear it in a monochrome look – top-to-toe pink – or tone it down by pairing it with washed-out denim or crisp white cotton.
Here are the best pink pieces to add a touch of Barbie sparkle to your look, but in a grown-up way.
Mango cotton dress with side ties
This is the perfect dress for a low-key summer wedding, just add elegant flat sandals and a structured basket bag. Its relaxed flowy shape and cotton fabric will keep you feeling and looking cool.
Fendi one-piece swimsuit
This sleek one-piece with the repeat Fendi mirrored motif screams grown-up Barbie. It comes with a matching pouch, which really ups the luxe factor. Just add a pair of sleek 00s sunglasses – in pink of course.
Frankie Shop Melody oversized organic cotton poplin shirt
I love the idea of a masculine outsized shirt in a strong pink hue. Wear this open over a white ribbed vest top and washed-out wide-leg jeans while off-duty or with tailored black trousers and a flat chunky loafer for the office.

Missoma Jelly Heart gemstone ring
Add just a hint of pink to your look with this gorgeous heart motif ring from Missoma. Wear it to elevate jeans and a T-shirt or use it as an accent to a full pink look.
Jigsaw Irish linen Gibson blazer
This super-slick blazer comes with a shorts or trousers option. Great for the office or a London wedding. Wear over a white silk T-shirt and with chunky leather slides for a modern summer-in-the-city feel.
Le Specs The Impeccable in bubblegum pink
These Y2K style rectangular frames will lift any look. Pair with that amazing Fendi one-piece for full Barbie-on-the-beach vibes. Or use them to add an edge to a floral midi dress.
Cos mock-neck maxi shirt dress
This dress is going to be a really hard-working piece in your wardrobe and would work well for numerous occasions. Dress it for the office with slick black accessories and a structured leather tote bag.
Massimo Dutti linen crossover top
Linen is the perfect summer fabric, especially when it is in this punchy fuchsia hue. Wear with wide-leg tailored trousers and leather flip-flops for a late 90s minimal vibe.
Weekday Luisa parachute trousers
The pale pink of these parachute pants is very appealing. Wear with a billowing white shirt for a modest but breezy summer look.
Bagllet mini capsule bag
I feel like Barbie would approve of this chic, structured petit bag. Wear with everything from a silk slip dress to a tailored linen suit. It is going to bring a bit of on-trend drama to any look.
