I never imagined I’d say this, but I’m rather pleased to see the return of peep-toe heels. Yes, I’m the person who’s always been adamant that toes are meant to stay behind closed doors – no toe cleavage, no unsolicited glimpses – and yet, here we are. 

Call them cut-out pumps, open-toe stilettos or a crisis for those of us whose toenail maintenance has been less than stellar lately, but whatever you call them, they’re on the move. Last spotted on the likes of Cheryl Cole and Sarah Jessica Parker circa 2009, they’ve slowly re-emerged. Now they’re making their way from the spring/summer 2025 catwalks to our favourite street stylers, and very soon, they’ll be appearing on the feet of your most fashionable friends.

The question, though, is how to wear them in a modern way. The key is to lean into the sort of preppy office-librarian chic, as seen at Miu Miu and Tory Burch, where peep-toes were paired with socks, skirts and layering pieces for a look that was both polished and playful. Or, take fashion inspiration from Doechii and pair almond-shaped grey peep-toes with sharp angular specs and a plaid dress – so cool.

It’s clear that now is the perfect moment to celebrate the in between – a little open, a little closed, but undeniably stylish. Whether you’re drawn to a chunky pump or a more delicate strappy design, look for peep-toe heels that complement both a polished office look and relaxed weekend wear.
