Not sure what to wear this Eid? Our fashion assistant has curated the best picks, including modest dresses, colourful kaftans and flowing maxis – all perfect for the occasion.
Eid is almost here. It’s one of my favourite times to gather with loved ones, reflect on the month gone by and celebrate with food, charity and new outfits. As someone who works in fashion, I always look forward to dressing up, but the end of Ramadan is one occasion when it feels more meaningful.
It’s not just about looking good; it’s about feeling good, too. After a month of fasting, the celebrations are long. So when searching for the perfect Eid outfit, comfort is just as important as style. You want something that feels as special as the day itself but still allows you to move easily from morning prayers to evening family gatherings without having to constantly adjust it.
Opt for lightweight fabrics like cotton or silk – they’re breathable and feel luxe without being too heavy. And who wants to host in a ballgown? A midi or maxi dress with a relaxed silhouette is ideal, giving you the perfect balance of polish and comfort. Look for subtle details, such as poplin sleeves, floating hemlines or delicate pleats to elevate your look without making it feel too fussy.
Luckily, there are so many fabulous options on the high street right now that strike this balance. Whether you’re after something bold and colourful or a more minimalist look, there’s no shortage of beautiful, modest dresses to choose from.
Ahead, I’ve put together an edit of my favourite modest yet chic dresses to shop now.
Next sage green puff-sleeve jacquard maxi dress
A dress that looks as good in person as it does in family photos? This is the one. The puff sleeves and A-line silhouette give it a romantic feel, while the all-over floral detailing keeps it fresh.

Omnes Tallulah violet dress
There’s something so effortlessly elegant about a fluted sleeve, especially a floaty midi dress in the dreamiest shade of lilac. Soft but not saccharine, it’s the kind of piece that works as well for an Eid breakfast spread as it does for visiting family later in the day. Add a sharp contrast – citrus-bright heels or a coral-red bag, for example.
Mango long flared-sleeve dress
From Mango’s Ramadan collection (which is packed with gems this year), this fuchsia dress is one of the standouts. The longline silhouette and three-quarter sleeves make it an all-day outfit. Just add a sleek clutch and a T-bar necklace and you’re set.
John Lewis Aab twill shirt collar maxi dress
A shirt maxi dress is the definition of ‘zero effort, maximum impact’. The clean-cut silhouette keeps it polished, while the relaxed fit means you can move from hosting duties to lounging on the sofa without feeling restricted. Perfect if your Eid plans include a full itinerary of eating, socialising and maybe even a quick nap in between.
Asos Design Curve long-sleeve satin maxi dress with ruched tab detail in plum
Draped dresses are everywhere right now, and this one could easily be mistaken for those seen at the Calvin Klein autumn/winter 2025 show. The high neck and ruched detailing make it feel refined but not overly fussy – perfect if you’re hosting an Eid lunch and want to look polished without feeling uncomfortable.

H&M satin kaftan dress
If there was ever a time to wear a show-stopping kaftan, it’s Eid. This one, in the boldest shade of orange, has a V-shaped neckline and wide pleated sleeves to add just the right amount of drama. A lightweight top layered under and heavy golden bangles will do all the heavy lifting.
Cos scarf-detail wool maxi dress
A scarf isn’t just a finishing touch; it can transform a whole look. This relaxed maxi dress has a rich, saturated cobalt-blue shade. It nods towards autumn/winter 2025 Roksanda and Sacai, but Eid-appropriate.
Nobody’s Child brown balloon sleeve Agatha midi dress
Not into the usual brights? A rich chocolate-brown dress is the perfect alternative. Deep, warm and versatile in hue, style it with gold accents for a dressier take or keep it casual with minimal accessories.
Shop Nobody’s Child brown balloon sleeve Agatha midi dress, £79
