A hybrid that meshes smart wide-leg trousers and 90s baggy jeans is here and it’s the only style we’ll be wearing for the foreseeable. Perfect with smart separates, kitten heels or super casual basics, it will be the hardest working item in your wardrobe.
High-rise, wide-leg jeans are the most versatile denim silhouette, and one that will serve you well throughout the seasons. Take inspiration from the 90s and wear black or grey styles with on-trend clogs or UGG boots and a chunky jumper. For a super-warm casual daytime look, add a cropped puffer too.
For evening, a black or indigo pair would look effortlessly elegant with a kitten heel, mini bag and long-sleeved silk top or slim knit; a look that will work well with a short wrap coat or ankle-length style too.
Come spring, they’ll look best with backless suede clogs or retro sneakers, a racer vest and an oversized shirt, while for summer we suggest turning them up with flip flops and adding a cropped boxy T-shirt or vest, a suede slouch bag and classic hoop earrings.
The newest jean shape from Levi’s, the Ribcage Wide Leg, is a wider-leg interpretation of its bestselling hyper high-waist Ribcage jeans. The Ribcage is a neat-fitting, very high-waisted style that has been popular thanks to its on-trend stiff denim that works well with so many tops, from sweatshirts to cropped vests and dressy evening styles. For a simple but stylish daytime look take style tips from stylist Monikh, who often pairs black wide-leg denim with flat shoes and long-sleeved T-shirts in an earthy palette including khaki and chestnut, accessorised with a cord pendant necklace.
Celebrity stylist Angie Smith prefers a more casual wide-leg look, often opting for oversized blue denim jeans and wearing them with knit vests or denim jackets and flats for an effortless everyday uniform.
