Floral dresses have had bold makeover – these 9 are our favourites to shop now

Ditsy print dresses have been swapped for larger, more statement-making styles.
“Florals for spring? Groundbreaking.” Whilst Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada may not be enamoured with the print, we can’t help but think florals certainly are here for spring. And despite not being groundbreaking, they are coming through in a slightly different design to the traditional ditsy print. Think bold colours, large, graphic shapes and minimalist backgrounds, all trickling down from the Fashion Week runways.
Looking at the spring/summer season, Richard Quinn wowed with large beaded roses on a black knee-length dress, Alexander McQueen made an extra large flower that also looked like a part of the female anatomy and Balmain made 3D roses stick out from a chic latex-like coat. So, clearly, floral patters are here to be bold this season and there’s no shortage of options to shop. We’ve scoured the high street to find our favourite nine below that are sure to work for every occasion: weddings, work and weekends all included.
Farm Rio off-white flowerful birds midi dress
For those after a more summer-ready style, this deep V-neck, open back midi dress is sure to top your wish list. Bright pops of pink flowers and birds brighten up the white cotton while the voluminous skirt makes it nice and airy.
H&M utility dress
This H&M red floral dress is a great example of a more graphic design. The playful print is rather punchy while the long sleeves and midi length make it more office-appropriate, too.
Kitri Leia floral print midi dress
For more of a retro flower-power print, take a look at this Kitri style. The cartoon-like flowers make it incredibly playful while the bright and bold colours are sure to liven up anyone’s wardrobe. We especially love the bow tie detail.
Rixo Marni open-back satin gown
Rixo is an expert when it comes to floral dresses and this satin style is a great example of why. The bright blue shade is sure to make a statement, so style with simple gold shoes and accessories to let it be the focal point of any outfit.
River Island Plus black floral belted midi dress
Simple and chic, this black and white graphic dress is a go-to for any occasion. Pair with wedges at the weekend or a basic pair of black ballet pumps for the office.
FatFace peony painted leaves maxi dress
If you’re a fan of more subtle colours, this pretty pastel pick is sure to snatch your attention. Combining pink, orange, cream and teal in a button-up, long-sleeve style, it’s a colourful cop that’s softer than stark, bright shades.
Kitri Wanda Iris impressionist floral shirt dress
Although the pattern of this pick is much smaller in size than some of the other options in this edit, it’s still just as punchy. Deeper shades of yellow, purple and green give it a seasonless style while the long sleeves, collared neckline and midi length make it a more modest cut.

Maeve the Bettina tiered midi shirt dress
For those who tend to shy away from colour, this Maeve dress may be just the answer. Although the main colours are black and white, small dots of pink, blue and yellow liven up the look with more vibrant accents.
Shop Maeve the Bettina tiered midi shirt dress at Anthropologie, £125
Whistles hibiscus print Mabel dress
For a laidback look, this dress style is sure to work wonders. Collarless, with a button-up front and tie waist, it can be worn loose or cinched-in to create a more defined shape, although we also think it would look great undone over a swimsuit.
