80s-inspired, gold earrings are trending – here are 10 of the best

Glamourous, gold earrings that nod to the 80s are trending, and they’re the perfect way to elevate your outfit in an instant. Including primary-colour stone-detail styles from Rouje x Missoma, Pandora’s delicate pave hoops and Otiumberg’s elegant wave earrings, there’s a style to suit everyone – even minimalists.
The 1980s was the decade of decadence, and jewellery was integral to the aesthetic. Clip-on earrings, heart motifs, pearl and stone-adorned brooches and bold bangles and bracelets were all familiar sights when worn with coloured eyeshadow, high hemlines, point-toe heeled pumps and dresses and jackets with bold shoulders.
Big gold jewellery and primary-coloured stones were key to the style, and these are some of the most prominent elements in the new Rouje x Missoma collection. The capsule includes five limited-edition statement-making pieces that will completely transform your look in time for party season. Missoma’s molten gold and the iconic Rouje heart meet in the form of pearl-drop earrings and a velvet charm choker necklace. The collection also includes gemstone pieces in red, blue and green, a chunky ring, oversized studs and wavy hoops.
Jeanne Damas, founder of Rouje, describes the collection as “effortless with a twist”, adding; “We’re very excited for this exclusive collection at Rouje, our first semi-precious jewellery using colourful stones. I love iconic pieces which can upgrade simple outfits – like jeans and a T-shirt – popping with beautiful gems and shapes.”
Marisa Hordern, founder and creative director of Missoma, says: “Leading a female-founded business, I’m proud to align with another – working with Jeanne and her amazing creative vision. The pieces have been inspired by vintage treasures we’ve found along our travels, from Portobello Market to Les Puces de Saint- Ouen.”

Missoma’s oversized, statement earrings, worn by Bella Hadid and Simone Ashley, remain a major trend for autumn/winter, while big, bold gold hoops, many of which have a distinct 80s-inspired design, are trending on and off the catwalk.
Alexia Karides, co-founder of YSSO, says: “The 80s are back in a big way, and we are seeing a real resurgence of statement pieces across all categories, including necklaces, rings and bracelets but particularly earrings. To me it’s much more of a way to express your personal style and aesthetic than a trend as such: wearing a dramatic pair of gold earrings is a great way to dress up a simple outfit and make a statement.”
The best thing about these impactful earrings is how they can transform even the most simple outfit into something elevated and polished. Opt for simple styles from Otiumberg or By Pariah for a great everyday option that can be worn with everything from an oversized shirt, jeans and trainers to a chunky knit, kilt and loafers. For the evening, bigger or embellished options from Missoma, Pandora and Jessie Thomas look great with slightly roomy tailoring or a tux jacket over an ankle-grazing dress with kitten heels. You can’t go wrong.
