The new year is here, and it brings with it fresh trends to inspire our style. According to Pinterest, cherry red is predicted to be the It colour for homeware this year. And because fashion and home decor trends often go hand in hand, it’s only natural to expect this vibrant hue to start heating up our wardrobes.
Glossy cherry red shades have already been making waves on the autumn/winter 2024 catwalks. At 16Arlington, Balmain and Courrèges, the colour shone in draped, second-skin dresses. Carven paired tailored asymmetrical pieces with soft baby pinks, and Dries Van Noten opted for an offbeat combination of cherry red and musky yellows.
Professor Carolyn Mair, author of The Psychology Of Fashion, says the appeal of cherry red lies in its duality. “It’s a colour that communicates strength and assertiveness while retaining a sense of warmth.”
While quiet luxury and neutral basics remain popular, bold shades are taking the spotlight. As Mair tells Stylist: “In a cultural landscape filled with uncertainty and a need for stability, cherry red reintroduces passion and vitality without losing sophistication, offering a change in perspective for 2025.”
