There is a huge array of autumn/winter 2024 fashion trends, so let Stylist’s fashion director, Lucy Reber, break down the key styles you should be buying. Read on for the low-key pieces that will slot easily into your wardrobe and give your look a lift.

The start of fashion month has got me thinking about my new season wardrobe. This weekend I’m off to watch shows for spring/summer 2025, and yet here I am still very much rocking my spring/summer 2024 outfits. It’s time to switch things up with the changing seasons and get some key autumnal pieces to update my look.

There are a plethora of trends to choose from for autumn/winter 2024: pastel hues, over-the-top texture and sheer panelling are just some of my favourites. All gorgeous, statement-making and perfect for the new season, but I’m not sure my mostly neutral wardrobe is ready to welcome them in. Instead, I’ll be looking towards trends for clean-line masculine pieces, classic heritage fabrics and low-key autumn/winter 2024 colour trends.

Hoodies were a surprise hit on the catwalks and an easy way to update your look by layering under a long trench coat, as seen at Coach, Valentino and Dries Van Noten. In addition to the bold bright red trend that has been rumbling throughout the past few seasons, there were also muted hues in the spotlight, including grey, khaki and chocolate brown. Bottega Veneta sent gorgeous rich brown leather overcoats and asymmetric dresses down its catwalk, while Celine focused on a neat brown skirt suit and glossy leather knee-high boots.

A cool country style focusing on heritage checks, tweed and cashmere was another wearable look for autumn/winter 2024. This is a great one to tap into; the classic pieces that make it up will be in your wardrobe for seasons to come. As a nod to this, I’ll be investing in a great chunky knit roll neck and a midi kilt, worn with the heavy-soled Chelsea boots I bought seasons ago that still feel right. Read on to see where I’ll be shopping for the trends and exactly what I am going to pick.

Uniqlo C Oversized Sweat Pullover Hoodie

I’ve already got this hoodie in grey, and now I’m eyeing up the khaki version. It sits in the menswear section of Uniqlo:C’s new drop, but as you can see, it looks excellent styled for women too.

I’ll be wearing mine under a tailored wool coat with wide-leg trousers and chunky leather loafers.

A cashmere jumper is always my go-to when the weather turns. This one will go with everything from silky slip skirts to slouchy jeans.

The high neckline here feels high-end; I can tell I’m going to struggle to take it off all season.
