Designer label Band of Outsiders has put a male model in a box to showcase its new 2013 menswear collection. Adding a new twist to Men’s Fashion Week, Band of Outsiders' Longest Show Ever presentation features a male model living, eating and sleeping in a small box for 60 hours.
While a male model held captive sounds right up our street, we were a little concerned for his welfare when we first heard of the Band of Outsiders’ stunt to showcase its spring 2013 collection.
However, our fears have been (slightly) allayed, when it turns out the box the model is living in is a purpose-built compartment made from wood and cardboard situated in a gallery window in the Marais district of Paris, the city where Men’s Fashion Week is currently being held. According to Fashionista.com the model - clad in Band of Outsider’s 2013 collection - will be able to leave the box to change his clothes, use the ‘facilities’, and get a new prop which he’ll be using to “tell the story of the collection”.
The male model’s daytime movements inside the box are also being live-streamed on the Band of Outsiders Tumblr page, and the gallery window faces out onto the street so passersby can also witness the ‘show’ (and pull funny faces, as we saw a couple of kids do). The Longest Show Ever will culminate with a cocktail party at the event’s completion and the model’s liberation on June 29, reports WWD.
It definitely brings a whole new meaning to the term 'window dressing'.
