This week ASOS DESIGN launched its biggest collaboration to date with New-York based designer and stylist, LaQuan Smith. You might not be familiar with his work by name, but you will know the names that have worn his designs: think Beyoncé, Rihanna and Cardi B just to name a few.

His story is pretty incredible: with no formal training and having been turned away from New York’s design institutes, LaQuan Smith refused to give up on his dream of being a designer. Instead, he took his creations to the New York party scene, handing out free clothes to the women who admired his pieces.

Fast forward a few years and LaQuan Smith was designing Beyoncé opening look of her OTR II tour. Remember that iconic mesh beaded high neck body suit with matching blazer? Yup, that was him.

The designer, who makes a point of creating a diverse range of products for his customer, has brought that same ethos to ASOS. The ASOS DESIGN X LaQuan Smith collabs spans main line collections and plus for both men and women, marking the first time his clothes will be available en masse.

LaQuan’s glamorous aesthetic of skin tight dresses and latex fabric for the collection includes camo-print thigh-high lace up boots, an oversized sequin plaid shirt dress, a leopard print blazer and a vinyl mini dress. Essentially, this is party with a capital ‘P’.
