Iconic, provocative and stunning; our favourite magazine covers starring real couples
By Stylist Team
We've selected some of our favourite magazine covers with some of our favourite A-list couples. Some are shocking, others sweet and, of course, some are pretty sexy.
Alas, not all the couples are still together, but we can still remember the good times with these iconic images.
Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer
To celebrate the last season of True Blood, husband and wife Anna Paquin and Stephen Meyers, who played lead characters Sooki Stackhouse and Bill Compton, posed on the cover of Entertainment Weekly in 2014. The couple first met and fell in love on the set of the vampire TV show. They married in 2010 and live in Los Angeles with their twins Charlie and Poppy.
Bruce Willis and Emma Heming
Model Emma Heming married actor Bruce Willis in March 2009. The couple posed for W back in July of the same year and did a rather risque shoot for the fashion magazine. They're still married and have two children together. Emma is also stepmother to Bruce's children from his previous marriage with Demi Moore.
emily vancamp and josh bowman
Emily Vancamp and Josh Bowman's characters may hate each other in the TV show Revenge but in real-life they are completely in love. Here they are posing on the cover of Entertainment Weekly in 2012.
George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin
Last year, the women of the world wept as the perennial bachelor George Clooney married British human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin in Italy. Vanity Fair in Italy published this previously unseen image of the couple's nuptials and we love it.
Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn
In 2006, everyone was talking about Jennifer Aniston's new relationships post-Brad. So no surprise that we were all obsessed with her budding romance with co-star Vince Vaughn. However, after shooting this magazine cover promoting their film The Break-Up they, er, broke up not long after.
Heidi Klum and Seal
This might come as a surprise but Heidi Klum and Seal are one of our all-time favourite couples. Having met in 2004 while Heidi was still pregnant with her first child, Leni, by former boyfriend Formula One Renault boss Flavio Briatore , Seal and Heidi got married in 2005. The couple went on to have three children together, with Seal officially adopting Leni. The couple were married for seven years before filing for divorce in 2012. Here they are looking happy on the cover of Elle Spain in 2008.
Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise
Unless you've been living a hermetic existence then you'll know Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes divorced in 2012. But that's not before they had their little girl Suri, and posed for Vanity Fair's cover in 2006, revealing their newest edition to their family, which was shot by Annie Leibovitz no less
Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel
We'd been waiting to see the wedding pictures from Justin and Jessica nuptials, and they didn't disappoint. Here, on the cover of Hello! in 2012, we got to see the popstar jumping up, as his new wife looked radiant in a pink dress.
John Lennon and Yoko Ono
A now iconic magazine cover, this photo of John Lennon and Yoko Ono taken by Annie Leibovitz in 1980 for Rolling Stone is so powerful, not just because John told Annie that this image represented his relationship perfectly with Yoko, but that this was the last magazine shoot he ever did - he was shot and killed five hours later.
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West
While many were angry that Kimye were given the cover of American Vogue in April 2014, just before they married in Italy the following month, editor Anna Wintour defended her decision to put them on the front by saying that “if we just remain deeply tasteful and just put deeply tasteful people on the cover, it would be a rather boring magazine”. Take what you will from that.
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West
Another cover for Kanye West and his wife Kim Kardashian, this time on the cover of French magazine L'Officiel in 2013. The image used for the cover was fairly provocative as was the rest of the shoot taken by Nick Knight.
Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson
While many Twilight fans were heartbroken when this on and off-screen couple eventually broke up, back in 2011 they posed for this cover of Entertainment Weekly to commemorate the final installment of the vampire movie saga.
Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman
Another cover for Tom Cruise, this time with his then wife Nicole Kidman on the front of Time magazine in 1999 as they promoted their upcoming movie Eyes Wide Shut.
Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder
There's clearly a theme here: anyone who stars in a vampire film or TV series is guaranteed to get together with their co-star. Here's former couple Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder, who star in The Vampire Diaries, on the cover of Entertainment Weekly in 2012, before they broke up 2013.
neil patrick harris and david burtka
Perhaps one of the most touching couples cover shoots is this one of Gone Girl star Neil Patrick Harris and his husband David Burtka on the cover of Out magazine in 2012. The accompanying article about how the couple fell in love is also one of the sweetest interviews we've ever read.
Victoria and David Beckham
There are few couples who can give as good cover as the Beckhams. Not the first time they'd done one together, here David and Victoria are both smouldering as they pose together for Paris Vogue in November 2013. Utterly flawless and elegant.
Will and Jada Pinkett Smith
We love looking inside other people's homes (don't we all?), especially when it's a home as fabulous as Will and Jada's. The couple look relaxed and happy on the cover of Architectural Digest in 2011.
Olivia Palermo and Johannes Huebl
We've already discussed about how much we love Olivia Palermo's style and also the fact that her and her husband Johannes Huebl are basically the most stylish people ever. Which is why we couldn't not include this fantastic magazine cover of the two from this January's issue of Flare.
Victoria and David Beckham
Another sizzling shoot from David and Victoria. This time it's for W magazine from back in 2007. Warning: the full shoot, which you can see here, requires a cold shower after viewing.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
Months before his divorce from Jennifer Aniston was even finalised, Brad Pitt shot this cover with his soon-to-be-girlfriend Angelina Jolie for W magazine in July 2005. The shoot was an image of Brad and Angelina with a gaggle of kids, and it's entitled 'Domestic Bliss'. Now married, this image is eerily accurate of the couple's future.
