Alexa Chung is synonymous with British style. We met up with our former cover girl as she fronts her latest label of choice, cult Italian footwear brand Superga.

Fashion credentials don’t come much better than winning the ‘Style Icon’ prize at last year’s British Fashion Awards. Well, unless you also have your very own Mulberry bag named in your honour (especially when that Mulberry bag, the ‘Alexa’, is the fashion house’s bestseller). With a J.Crew collaboration also under her belt, next up for model-turned-presenter Alexa Chung is a role as the face of Italian footwear brand Superga. The label’s practical but elegant trainers have an army of cult followers, including Sienna Miller and Robbie Williams, and this week it celebrates a landmark 100th year with a spring campaign starring Alexa. To mark the occasion, Stylist (armed with the ultimate fashion questionnaire) tracked down Alexa and put her covetable style under the spotlight…

Go-to style inspiration:

Mick Jagger or Kurt Cobain if I’m feeling tomboyish. On a girlie day, it’s Jane Birkin or [French singer] Françoise Hardy.

Last purchase:

Prada earrings of women dancing in banana skirts!

Favourite item of clothing:

My denim shorts, which I wear almost daily. Other than that it’s an antique cameo ring I got from Spitalfields Market in east London or my small Chanel bag.

Dover Street Market on Dover Street, West London.

Favourite vintage hunting ground:

It’s hard these days, most things have gone and there’s only bad Eighties stuff left. LA is still good for bargains but it’s tricky to find gems in London and New York now.

Favourite fashion city:

London street style is the best in the world. Fact.

Favourite fashion designer:

Miuccia Prada, currently.

Favourite upcoming label:

Carven. Lately I’ve just wanted to dress head-to-toe in it because Guillaume Henry, the designer, has made a schooluniform- meets-Françoise- Hardy inspired collection, which is perfect.

Must-have fashion item for summer:

Superga trainers. They’re the best for beachside fun but also ace with skinny black jeans. My faves are the pale pink ones.

Favourite trend for spring/summer:

I’m bad at trends. Just wear what you want and what suits you.

Your biggest fashion disaster:

Dark lipstick on me is both a risk and a disaster.

Most comfortable outfit:

If it’s comfy it probably doesn’t look good.

Latest beauty discovery:

Body moisturiser. I’m only just starting to use it daily – my elbows used to be akin to the texture of gravel! Davina Peace’s body oil is nice or I love Kiehl’s Crème de Corps.

Most surreal fashion experience to date:

Sitting at a table with Marc Jacobs and Anna Wintour at an event in New York.
