Hilary Swank's longterm partner, former professional tennis player Ruben Torres, proposed to the actress during a hike with a beautiful emerald ring. Swank shared this sweet snap on her Instagram feed and said, "I am so happy to share with you all this exciting and incredible news".

American actress and dancer, Julianne Hough, announced the news of her engagement to Canadian ice-hockey player Brooks Laich last week, but it was last night that she unveiled her ring on her lifestyle blog Jules . The six-carat Lorraine Schwartz creation was gifted to her at the couple's home. “We stood on the deck, watching the sun set over the lake and listening to our favorite songs. Not even for a second did I expect that beautiful, serene scene was about to become one of the most meaningful moments of our lives,” writes Hough.

Star of Peaky Blinders, Charlotte Riley met husband Tom Hardy on the set of Wuthering Heights in 2009. While the couple were quiet about getting married, after getting engaged in 2010, they finally tied the knot in July 2014 in the South of France.  

The Ugly Betty star got engaged to boyfriend Ryan Piers Williams in 2010 and was married in 2011. The ring is a four-carat round-cut diamond in a platinum setting and is worth an estimated £47,000.

Amber Heard's sparkling engagement ring cost somewhere in the region of £67,000. According to E! Online, who spoke to jewellery expert Zaven Ghanimian "it looks like a 5-carat ring". 

There's clearly something about vampires here, as Twilight star Nikki Read got engaged to Vampire Diaries' Ian Somerhalder in February 2015. The flower-shaped ring is thought to have cost upwards of £33,000.

Cheryl Cole's original engagement ring was a heart-shaped diamond. But after cheating on her, Cheryl's then-husband Ashley Cole bought her this £160,000, white and yellow diamond replacement.
