Ahead of the return of Yellowjackets this weekend, here are five of the burning questions we hope to see answered in season two.
Warning: this article contains spoilers for season one of Yellowjackets, so make sure you’re all caught up before you keep reading.
To say season one of Yellowjackets left us with a few questions would be more than a bit of an understatement. The series – which follows the fate of a girls’ high school soccer team whose plane crash-landed in the middle of the Canadian wilderness alongside their lives as adults 25 years later – has prompted plenty of fan theories since the finale aired in January last year.
To recap, season one came to an end just after three of the present-day survivors – Shauna, Taissa, Natalie – enlist Misty to help them dispose of the body of Shauna’s former lover, Adam, whom she stabbed to death for fear he was the one blackmailing the women.
The four women then attend their school reunion as a united front, where Shauna claims the title of Prom Queen before Natalie is kidnapped from her motel room by a group of strangers.
Back in the wilderness, things are slowly becoming more messed up. After their shroom-fuelled, violent hunt through the woods the night before, the group are coming to terms with their actions (most alarmingly, Shauna holding a knife to Travis’ throat) when a bear approaches the group. Before they’ve got time to panic, however, we see Lottie approach the bear and stab it clear in the neck.
The finale ends as Jackie reveals to the group that Shauna’s baby is Jeff’s – and the pair have a screaming match which leads to Jackie spending the night outside, where, you might recall, she freezes to death amid the first snow of winter.
But despite all that action, there’s still a whole load of questions that need answering in the Yellowjackets universe. And while we may not get all the answers in season two – the show’s co-creator Ashley Lyle has said the team has a five-season arc in mind – we’ve got our fingers crossed that at least some of the following questions will be answered…
Did Lottie kidnap Natalie? And, if so, what is she up to?

As we’ve already mentioned, at the end of season one Natalie is kidnapped by a group of strangers as a voicemail from her banker friend Suzie – who has been looking into Travis’s bank account as a favour – questions what Natalie has got herself into, before asking: “Who the fuck is Lottie Matthews?”
With this in mind, it seems likely that Natalie’s kidnappers have something to do with present-day Lottie – especially because we get a glimpse of one of the group wearing the symbol that haunted the girls in the woods on a chain around their neck. But who is Lottie Matthews in 2021?
What happens to Shauna’s baby?

At the end of season one, teenage Shauna is visibly pregnant – by our rough estimations, she’s about four or five months along. But in the present day, her baby – who should be about 25 years old – is nowhere to be seen. Shauna has a daughter, yes, but Callie is only a teenager, making it impossible that she’s the same child Shauna carried in the woods. So where is Shauna’s baby?
Despite fears from fans that the girls would end up eating Shauna’s baby in desperation – it’s not that far-fetched a theory, considering some of Shauna’s earliest dreams about the baby involve her giving birth to a roast chicken and digging in as soon as the umbilical cord has been cut – Tawny Cypress, who plays young Taissa, has confirmed there are some lines that the show simply won’t cross.
So, with eating off the table, what does happen to Shauna’s baby? Does it somehow die in the wilderness or does she have another child out there waiting for her? We’ll have to wait and see.
Where is Javi?

When we last saw Javi (played by Luciano Leroux), he was fleeing from the group after they became high on shrooms and started hunting down his brother, Travis; amid the chaos, an almost-possessed Shauna tells him to run – and he rushes off into the wilderness.
The next day, however, when things have calmed down, Javi is nowhere to be seen, and his brother launches a search party to try and find him.
However, in the present day, we’re given no indication that Javi is actually alive, so we’re none the wiser as to whether Travis’s search efforts prove fruitful. Some fans suggested that Adam – the guy present-day Shauna has an affair with – could have been Javi, but those theories have since been quashed.
So, does Javi survive his time alone in the woods? And if so, does he end up getting rescued with the rest of the group? Only time will tell.
What is happening with present-day Taissa? And who killed Biscuit?

Oh, poor Biscuit. At the end of season one, we see Taissa’s wife Simone (played by Rukiya Bernard) stumble upon the decapitated head of their son Sammy’s dog Biscuit in the basement of the family’s home, alongside Sammy’s doll and a heart (which may or may not be Biscuit’s).
The dreaded symbol which has been following the group since they first crash-landed in the wilderness is also painted on the wall in blood.
Of course, at this point, we’re aware of Taissa’s sleepwalking sessions during which she seems to lose control of her actions – so we’re led to believe that this makeshift shrine is the result of her doing. But is that so? Is she really unaware of her actions? And could the shrine have anything to do with her going on to win her state senate race?
Why does Jackie’s journal contain references to films released after her death in the woods?

This may seem like a small, insignificant detail, but it’s raised a lot of questions since one of Yellowjackets’s showrunners, Jonathan Lisco, confirmed the presence of films in Jackie’s diary including Titanic, American Beauty and Bring It On – which all came out after her death – was not a mistake.
Could it have something to do with the relationship Shauna seems to have with Jackie’s ghost, as we’ve seen play out in season one?
