I pride myself on being the person everyone goes to for new show recommendations (Spent, Sunny, Simone Biles Rising if you want a few faves) but my current obsession is only going to be a revelation to someone who went into a bunker to avoid the millennium celebrations and never emerged.

I think I was put off medical dramas by my mum and sister (a nurse and doctor, respectively) who would never let an episode of Casualty air without a running commentary on the medical inaccuracies or everything the staff at Holby were doing wrong. But after taking a chance on a random episode on a flight I was hooked. There’s much to love: the chemistry between the leads (Ellen Pompeo, Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl and Patrick Dempsey – I’m still only on series two), the snappy script by Shonda Rhimes, the female gaze and impressive diversity and the wild medical conditions – from a woman constantly orgasming to a man and woman both impaled on the same pole. The best thing? I still have another 387 episodes to go.
