Move over Nordic noir. Autumn 2023 is all about Tore, dark yet funny new Swedish drama from Netflix.
You probably don’t need us to tell you that autumn = curl up on the sofa in front of the TV season. So as the leaves turn brown and the nights draw in, it’s the perfect time to turn our attention to creating the perfect cosy watchlist. And while your mind might automatically jump to a Nordic thriller or grisly noir in preparation for cold, dark evenings, allow us to suggest an alternative.
We’re talking about Tore, the currently under-the-radar new Netflix show that we think is going to take everyone by surprise – in the best way.
Perfect for fans of Euphoria, Sex Education and Call Me By Your Name, the dark but funny six-episode series is created, written by and stars Swedish comedian William Spetz. Wondering what Tore is all about? Well, get ready for a feel-good-and-bad dramedy about running away from all the things that hurt while trying to figure out who you are.

As per Netflix’s official synopsis, when 27-year-old Tore loses the most important person in his life in a garbage truck accident, he does everything he can to suppress his grief. During the days, he continues to work at his father’s funeral home as if nothing has happened and starts flirting with the new florist, Erik. At night, he establishes himself on a party boat in the city and experiences alcohol, sex and drugs for the first time. A new and beautiful – but risky – world suddenly opens up to Tore, but his best friend Linn and the colleagues at the funeral home quickly start to worry that Tore is about to lose his footing in his desperate attempts to escape reality.

In an offbeat yet heartfelt way, Tore deals with topics of identity, mental health, the importance of (and conflicts within) family and friendship as Tore tries to find his own path within the LGBTQ+ community and in life, with a lot of surprises along the way.

Following the success of series like Love & Anarchy and Quicksand, Sweden is very quickly making a name for itself as a home of quirky yet thought-provoking TV. And while the trailer hasn’t even been released yet, we’re calling it now: Tore is the show you’re going to be recommending to everybody this autumn.
Tore will launch globally on Netflix on 27 October.
