Here’s everything we know so far about This City Is Ours, the gripping new crime drama coming to the BBC this spring.
There’s nothing better than sinking your teeth into a nail-biting new crime drama filled with tension, family feuds, mystery and betrayal, which is why we’re very much looking forward to This City Is Ours.
Based in Liverpool and filmed on location and in Spain, the eight-part series is led by Sean Bean, who stars as notorious gang leader Ronnie Phelan, the patriarch of a dangerous crime family. It’s a story of corruption, greed and a thirst for power that boasts a cast full of familiar faces from shows such as Derry Girls and Gavin & Stacey.
The BBC has released a first look at This City Is Ours, giving us a glimpse into what will unfold in the series and how the cast all fit together as part of the ensemble. Here’s everything we know so far…
What is the plot of This City Is Ours?

The series begins as Ronnie, who has run a lucrative crime enterprise with his wife, Elaine (Julie Graham), for years, starts to think about retirement, which kick-starts a whole series of turbulent events.
When Ronnie starts to think about moving on, his friend Michael (James Nelson-Joyce) thinks about following suit. He’s fallen in love and, for the first time, he has something to fight for: Diana (Hannah Onslow).
As the crime gang starts to disintegrate, a shipment of cocaine goes missing from Colombia and everything starts to unravel.
Ronnie’s son, Jamie, is also in the running to inherit the criminal enterprise, but he’s convinced that if he does take over, it has to be without Michael. The battle for leadership of the gang begins, but who will come out on top?
Who has been cast in This City Is Ours?

The BBC has struck gold with the cast, which is led by Bafta award-winner Bean, alongside James Nelson-Joyce as Michael, Hannah Onslow as Diana, Jack McMullen as Ronnie’s son Jamie and Julie Graham as Elaine.
Alongside this, the supporting cast features Saoirse-Monica Jackson (Derry Girls), Laura Aikman (Gavin & Stacey), Stephen Walters, Kevin Harvey and Bobby Schofield.
Created by Stephen Butchard, it will also be directed by Saul Dibb (The Salisbury Poisonings), John Hayes (Dublin Murders) and Eshref Reybrouck (Undercover).
When will This City Is Ours be released?
There is no confirmed release date for This City Is Ours yet, but the BBC has announced that it will be released in the spring of 2025.
