Faithful and unfaithful, assemble: The Traitors is back for summer, albeit with a twist…
The Traitors, fronted by Claudia Winkleman and The Fringe™, became the sleeper hit nobody expected when it arrived without much fanfare on the BBC last November.
Set in a sprawling Scottish castle, the reality series saw a group of four traitors forced to work together to eliminate the other ‘faithful’ contestants in order to win a grand prize.
The result? Pure drama, quite frankly, and we were positively hooked. And while we may have to wait until the autumn for a second batch of the Winkleman-fronted edition, it seems we will still be getting a much-needed dose of The Traitors this summer.
Enter the fray, then, The Traitors Australia:
Hosted by Aussie TV personality Rodger Corser, the series has been billed once again as “a psychological reality game show centred around tactics, betrayal, suspicion and manipulation”.
“Should the Faithful contestants eliminate all the Traitors, they will share the prize fund of AU$250,000,” promises the official press release. “If a Traitor makes it to the end, they steal the money.”
Cue a “deliciously, dangerous game of lies, deception and betrayal” as we, the viewers, are left wondering whether the Faithfuls have what it takes to eliminate the Traitors.
Because if they unwittingly allow themselves to be manipulated, they may wind up eliminating one of their own – and push the Traitors ever closer to the cash prize.
Bring it on.
Speaking about the upcoming series, Nasfim Haque, head of content for BBC Three, says: “The Traitors is an addictively fiendish format and I am so pleased that viewers can get their summer fix of treachery and suspicion as we head Down Under for the Australian version of the show on BBC Three and iPlayer.”
Fair warning, though: this is the one English-language version of the show that’s produced by a different production company, so things may feel a little different to the OG.
Red jumpsuits, gold masks and 1980s hotel setting aside, though, there’s no denying it makes for great telly – and that’s largely down to Corser’s own brand of dry humour/mockery.

The 12-episode boxset will land all at once at Sunday 9 July on BBC iPlayer, and will broadcast on BBC Three.
