If you love a psychological thriller that really makes you sit back and think for days after, then Channel 5’s latest offering is one to add to your winter watch list. Combining the world of relationships with a murder, The Serial Killer’s Wife is a dark and eerie thriller series that follows a picture-perfect couple who become mired in a murder case. Think Gone Girl but set in a small cosy English town.

What is the plot of The Serial Killer’s Wife?

Set in an idyllic English town, Beth Fairchild (Annabel Scholey) has prepared a surprise birthday party for her husband Tom (Jack Farthing), who’s the beloved local doctor. But Beth’s world is turned upside down when the party’s interrupted by the police and Tom is arrested for the murder of his former assistant.

Beth believes her husband is wrongly accused, but as the series unfolds, we see that her picture-perfect life isn’t as squeaky clean as it appears and makes some shocking discoveries about Tom and their marriage, which she confides to Tom’s childhood best friend, Adam.

Who will star in The Serial Killer’s Wife?

The UK original drama will star Annabel Scholey (The Split) as Beth, Jack Farthing (Rain Dogs) as Tom, and Luke Treadaway (Attack The Block) as Adam, alongside Waterloo Road’s Angela Griffin.

Julie Graham (Maternal, Shetland) is also joining the cast as Beth’s absent mother Clover, while Shobna Gulati (Inside No.9, Coronation Street) plays headmistress Kiran. Hari Dhillon (Guilt) is Tom’s close friend and defence lawyer Maxwell, while Morgana Robinson (The Larkins) is Jules, one of Tom’s childhood friends.

Speaking about the series, Scholey said: “Beth is someone carrying immense pressure as she attempts to portray this idyllic family life. Yet, behind closed doors, these first images perfectly capture the hauntingly dark and troubled truth which seemingly lies behind the façade of it all… It’s just the start of this very twisted story and I hope viewers will be as gripped watching it as we were in piecing it all together.”

When will The Serial Killer’s Wife be released?

The series was initially released on Paramount+ last year. The four-part series is now airing across four nights on Channel 5, starting from Boxing Day and finishing on Sunday 29 December.
