Returning to the world of romcoms, Emma Appleton stars in Paramount+’s new TV adaptation of Beth O’Leary’s novel, The Road Trip.

Taking a road trip with your sister, your ex-boyfriend and his best friend sounds like a recipe for disaster, but love works in mysterious ways. Well, it does in the new Paramount+ romcom series, The Road Trip. Based on Beth O’Leary’s book of the same name, The Road Trip is all about finding love in unusual places – including the past – and whether someone can truly be the right person for you but just at the wrong time in your life.

If you loved The Flatshare, then this series is one to watch out for. Here’s everything to know about The Road Trip.

What is the plot of The Road Trip?

When Addie and her sister Deb are invited to a friend’s wedding in Spain, they set out on a road trip but are quickly forced into sharing the campervan with Addie’s ex-boyfriend Dylan, his best friend Marcus and Rodney, a total stranger. In the confines of the campervan, the unlikely group have to face their long history (and secrets) head on.

Swapping between the past and present, the series follows Addie and Dylan’s relationship, which started as a holiday romance many summers ago, and what exactly happened between the couple that ultimately ended in them breaking up. And will their journey back to where they first fell in love bring a happy-ever-after for them both?

Who will star in The Road Trip?

Taking on the role of Addie is Emma Appleton (The Killing Kind, Everything I Know About Love) and Dylan is played by Laurie Davidson (Mary & George). Also joining the cast is David Jonsson (Rye Lane, Industry) as best friend Marcus; Isabella Laughland as Addie’s sister Deb; and Angus Imrie (The Crown, Fleabag) as Rodney.

Reuniting with Appleton is Everything I Know About Love’s director China Moo-Young, who is the lead director on the series.

Speaking about the TV adaptation, author O’Leary said: “I am so thrilled to finally be able to shout about this news! From my very first glimpse at an early script for this show, I knew it was going to be something really special, and now that we have our incredible cast lined up, I just cannot wait to see The Road Trip brought to life.”

When will The Road Trip be released?

The Road Trip is now streaming exclusively on Paramount+.
