Amazon Prime’s latest series The Peripheral is a sci-fi thriller based on the bestselling novel of the same name by William Gibson. Here’s everything we know so far.
It’s been a while since a dystopian TV series kept us on the edge of our seats – but by the looks of the official trailer, Amazon Prime’s new sci-fi thriller The Peripheral could be just what we’re looking for.
The new series has been a long-time coming – it was first announced back in 2018 – but with less than a month to go until the show makes its way to our screens, excitement is building.
Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by William Gibson and from the creators of Westworld, The Peripheral centres on the story of Flynne Fisher – a young American woman who escapes the mundanity of her everyday life by playing advanced VR video games. However, when a company sends Flynne a new system to try out, there’s a surprise in store…
Keep reading to check out everything that’s been released about the series so far, including the exciting trailer.
What is The Peripheral about?
The Peripheral’s plot spans two time periods and locations – near-future rural America and a futuristic form of London.
It follows the story of Flynne Fisher, her Marine veteran brother, Burton, and their dying mother, who live in a small town in the Blue Ridge Mountains in 2032.
As their mother’s health deteriorates and the medical bills add up, Flynne and Burton make extra money playing advanced video games called sims – but when Burton is offered the chance to beta test a new sim, the pair discover a world they never expected.

Faced with a complex task, Flynne enters the sim – which looks like London – pretending to be a brother. But when the assignment goes badly wrong, Flynne begins to realize the sim is more real than she ever could have imagined.
The London she’s exploring exists in the future… the year 2099. And what Flynne has uncovered has put her and her family in grave peril.
