Yes, it’s official: The Last Of Us will be returning for a third season. Here’s everything to know about the news so far.
It’s now mere days until HBO’s hit series, The Last Of Us, finally returns to our screens. As a huge fan of the show, it feels like I’ve been waiting for season two for so very long. The new season has a lot of questions to answer but I’m excited to dive back into the chaotic, tense and emotional world of Ellie and Joel. Oh, and the creepy Infected, of course.
But before the new season even premieres, fans have even more exciting news because The Last Of Us has been renewed by HBO for a third season.
The creators of the show, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, have mentioned in previous interviews that they’d always envisioned the story to be split into multiple seasons. Speaking to Variety, they explained that the second part of the video game is massive and its events need to be split into more than one season. “It’s getting harder to make, because every episode gets big. You don’t want to wait four years for a 17-episode finish, or whatever it is.”

Speaking more recently in a statement on the renewal announcement, Mazin said: “We approached season two with the goal of creating something we could be proud of. The end results have exceeded even our most ambitious goals, thanks to our continued collaboration with HBO and the impeccable work of our unparalleled cast and crew. We look forward to continuing the story of The Last Of Us with season three.”
“It can’t be overemphasized how proud HBO is for the outstanding achievement we believe the second season of The Last Of Us is,” Francesca Orsi, HBO’s executive vice president said in the same statement. “We’re thrilled to carry the power of Craig and Neil’s storytelling into what we know will be an equally moving and extraordinary third season.”
The second season of The Last Of Us will premiere on Sky and NOW on Monday 14 April.
