Based on the hugely popular book trilogy of the same name by Erik Axl Sund, a new six-part psychological thriller series is coming to Paramount+ in early 2025. The novels in The Crow Girl series, which have sold over 1 million units worldwide, follow the women searching for a killer and exploring the lasting effects of psychological torture and trauma. The novels are Scandi noir – set in Stockholm – but the new series is being reimagined for English audiences and is set in the UK.

What is the plot of The Crow Girl?

Beginning with the discovery of a teenage boy’s body, DCI Jeanette Kilburn works with psychotherapist Sophia Craven to search for the killer – despite her superiors at work telling her not to pursue the case.

The investigation draws the women into a dangerous world marked by historic abuse and murder, and together they uncover a chain of shocking events that have gone overlooked for decades – as well as evidence of police corruption within DCI Kilburn’s own ranks.

“As the body count rises and the two women are dragged into the depths of the murders, an intimacy starts to form between them, and so begins a complex, twisted love story. All the while, the killer is inching ever closer to home,” reads the Paramount+ synopsis for the series.

Who will star in The Crow Girl?

Eve Myles (Hijack, Keeping Faith) will star as DCI Kilburn and Katherine Kelly (Mr Bates vs The Post Office, Innocent) will play Sophia Craven.

Myles said: “Jeanette is such a compelling character. As soon as I read the script, I knew I wanted to explore her story in more detail. It’s been a really terrific first few weeks on set working alongside a team of such incredible talented people.”

Also joining the cast are Dougray Scott (Deep Impact) as DI Lou Stanley, Clara Rugaard (I Am Mother) as Victoria Burkeman, Victoria Hamilton (The Crown) as Superintendent Verity Pound, Elliot Edusah (1917) as DC Mike Dilliston, Chloe Sweetlove (Our Fathers) as Madeleine Burkeman and Lee Boardman (Outlander) as David White.

“I’m delighted to get started on this absorbing story,” said Kelly. “The book is thrilling and [screenwriter] Milly Thomas’s scripts are even better, and I am excited to start unpicking the character of Sophia as events in the series unfold.”
