The Bear may be about a rising star in Chicago’s culinary world, but it’s the series that has got everyone talking – and we finally know when it’s coming to the UK.

When it comes to TV programmes about food, we’re used to Bake Off, Chef’s Table and all the other fun shows and documentaries in between. But dramas about the world of food are a little harder to come by. Most recently Stephen Graham’s Boiling Point won us over, and now there’s now a new series that takes the culinary world as its inspiration – and we can’t wait to watch it.

The Bear has received much praise since its US release earlier this year, and it’s even managed to hit a coveted 100% Rotten Tomatoes ranking. The comedy-drama has been hailed one of the unmissable watches of the year and for good reason. It’s been applauded for being an authentic and gripping look at the reality of running a small restaurant, and trust us, it’s been a real struggle to contain our excitement as avid US watchers have been excitedly sharing their opinions, recaps and tweets about each episode.

It’s been such a hit that it’s already been renewed for a second season and now we finally know when it’s coming to the UK. With that, here’s everything you need to know about The Bear

What is the plot of The Bear

The series deals with the fast-paced and gritty world of small restaurants. Specifically, in Chicago – but you don’t need to be clued up on your Top Chef or Masterchef episodes as the series also explores family loss, relationships and suicide.

As the synopsis reads: “The Bear follows Carmen ‘Carmy’ Berzatto, a young chef from the fine dining world who comes home to Chicago to run his family sandwich shop – The Original Beef of Chicagoland – after a heartbreaking death in his family.

“A world away from what he’s used to, Carmy must balance the soul-crushing realities of small business ownership, his strong-willed and recalcitrant kitchen staff and his strained familial relationships, all while grappling with the impact of his brother’s suicide.”
