Yellowjackets’ Ella Purnell takes the lead in Sweetpea, the thrilling drama coming to Sky later this year.

There’s nothing we love more than the kind of gripping, female-led thriller we can really sink our teeth into while also making us question the world around us, and even ourselves. So we couldn’t be more excited for Sweetpea to land on our screens, a deviously twisted coming-of-‘rage’ story from the writers behind Killing Eve, Pure and Sex Education.

Ready to follow a quiet wallflower on a darkly funny and intoxicating journey of self-discovery, with deadly consequences? Here’s everything we know about the six-part series so far, including a first look at the brand new trailer.

What is the plot of Sweetpea?

Prepare yourself for a dark story of belonging, boundaries and becoming who you were meant to be.

Rhiannon Lewis is a woman who doesn’t make much of an impression. People walk past her in the street without a second glance, she’s continually overlooked for a promotion at work, the guy she likes won’t commit and her dad is really, really sick. So far, so shit. Then everything in her life turns upside down.

When Rhiannon is pushed over the edge, she loses control. Suddenly the wallflower is gone, and in its place is a young woman capable of anything… Rhiannon’s life transforms as she steps into a new, intoxicating power, but can she keep her killer secret?

As the brand new trailer hints, perhaps not… Watch it for yourself below:

Who stars in Sweetpea?

Ella Purnell – who you may know as Jackie in the brilliant Sky Atlantic drama Yellowjackets – will star as Rhiannon, with Mood’s Nicôle Lecky as Julia, Smothered’s Jon Pointing as Craig and Bridgerton’s Calam Lynch as AJ.

The series is adapted from CJ Skuse’s novel of the same name by writer and executive producer Kirstie Swain (Pure) and written by Kirstie Swain, and Krissie Ducker (Killing Eve), alongside Laura Jayne Tunbridge and Selina Lim (Sex Education, Hanna).

When will Sweetpea be available to watch?

Sweetpea will premiere on Sky and streaming service NOW in the UK on 10 October.
