Strap in for a unique new thriller starring Colin Farrell – coming soon.
It’s not Colin Farrell’s first rodeo playing a TV detective: that was in season two of True Detective back in 2015.
But his new role as a private investigator John Sugar in the upcoming noir series Sugar looks set to bend the genre out of shape. For a start, Sugar’s sharp suit would look out of place at AC-12, and we anticipate it will keep you guessing until the final credits roll.
Launching on Apple TV+ next month, here’s everything we know about Sugar so far.
What is the plot of Sugar?
Don’t be fooled by the sweet name, the drama follows John Sugar on a dark new job set against a stylish, sun-bleached LA backdrop. Olivia Seigel, the granddaughter of a legendary Hollywood producer, has gone missing, and Sugar has been tasked with finding out what has happened to her.
As he investigates, he gets drawn deeper and deeper into the case and uncovers some long-hidden secrets about the Seigel family – as well as some shady recent ones.
But what’s Sugar’s story? Can we trust him? “Out here, I’m one of the good guys,” he teases. “But good and bad can be in the eye of the beholder.”
Very mysterious…

Who stars in Sugar?
Appearing alongside Oscar-nominated Farrell are Kirby (Sandman), Amy Ryan (The Wire), James Cromwell (who we last saw delivering the eulogy of all eulogies in Succession) and Sydney Chandler (Don’t Worry Darling).

When will Sugar be released?
The eight-part series will debut with two episodes on Friday 5 April 5 on Apple TV+. One new episode will follow weekly on Fridays. Until then, immerse yourself in the trailer…
