Anyone else counting down the days until Slow Horses returns? Here’s what you need to know about its much-anticipated third season…
Slow Horses is one of those sleeper hits that catches you off-guard. The name, for starters, conjures up an image of… well, of ageing, past-their-prime ponies, quite frankly. So, when everyone started banging on about how excellent it was back in 2022, many rolled their eyes and failed to heed the sound advice about adding it to their must-watchlists.
Here’s the thing, though: the Apple TV+ hit boasts an eyewatering 97% ‘fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes – and it has nothing to do with horses, slow or otherwise.
Based on Mick Herron’s Slough House series of books, it’s about a team of British intelligence agents who serve in a dumping ground department of MI5 as a result of their career-ending mistakes. And it is mesmerising.

What is Slow Horses S3 about?
As anyone who has tuned into the series before will attest, the series follows a team of disgraced spies who, led by their “brilliant but irascible leader, the notorious Jackson Lamb, navigate the espionage world’s smoke and mirrors to defend England from sinister forces.
“In season three, a romantic liaison in Istanbul threatens to expose a buried MI5 secret in London,” promises the official synopsis.
“When Jackson Lamb and his team of misfits are dragged into the fight, they find themselves caught in a conspiracy that threatens the future not just of Slough House but of MI5 itself.”
All together now? Ooh!
Who stars in Slow Horses S3?
Academy Award-winner Gary Oldman will, of course, reprise his role as Jackson Lamb for the much-anticipated third season of Slow Horses.
Jack Lowden returns as River Cartwright, as does Kristin Scott Thomas as the all-powerful Diana Taverner and the always-excellent Sophie Okonedo as Ingrid Tearney. And Saskia Reeves is back as office administrator Catherine Standish, too.

As if that weren’t enough star power for you, Gangs of London star Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù will join the series for its upcoming third and fourth seasons.
