New post-apocalyptic drama Silo is all about an underground society hiding in fear of a toxic wasteland above… but is all as it seems?

If the meteoric success of The Last Of Us has taught us anything, it’s that we have a deep-rooted fascination with stories about the end of the world – or, rather, what comes after the end of the world.

Naturally, then, we’re incredibly excited about Silo, an upcoming post-apocalyptic drama from Apple TV+.

Here’s what you need to know about the highly anticipated TV series.

What’s the plot of Silo?

Based on Hugh Howey’s New York Times bestselling trilogy of dystopian novels, this 10-episode drama tells the story of the last 10,000 people on earth.

Their world, however, looks incredibly different to ours, as they live in the show’s eponymous silo buried deep, deep underground. There, men and women live in a society full of rules and regulations they believe are meant to protect them from the toxic wasteland above… but is all as it seems?

“No one knows when or why the silo was built and any who try to find out face fatal consequences,” promises the synopsis.

When a young engineer begins searching for answers about a loved one’s murder, however, she finds herself unravelling an almighty conspiracy, and it’s not long before she finds herself tumbling into a mystery that goes far deeper than she could have ever imagined.

“If the lies don’t kill you, the truth will.”

Ominous. Deeply, deeply ominous.

Who stars in Silo?

Created by Emmy-nominated screenwriter Graham Yost, Rebecca Ferguson takes the lead as Silo’s Juliette – as in, yes, that same engineer who accidentally uncovers a world-shattering scandal.

She is joined by an exciting ensemble cast: think Succession’s Harriet Walter, Dickinson’s Chinaza Uche, The Walking Dead’s Avi Nash, Selma’s David Oyelowo, Parks And Recreation’s Rashida Jones, Mystic River’s Tim Robbins and The Chi’s Common.

Phew. Throw in the fact that Academy Award nominee Morten Tyldum (Defending Jacob and The Imitation Game) directs the first three episodes, and you have plenty of reasons to watch the world-building drama.

What are people saying about Silo?

Howey, who serves as executive producer on the upcoming TV adaptation of his work, has praised the “amazingly talented actors” that are poised to bring his characters to life.

“Years in the making, one step at a time, the truth is about to surface,” the author promises fans via Instagram

When can we watch Silo?

Silo will premiere with the first two episodes on 5 May, followed by one new episode weekly, every Friday through 30 June on Apple TV+.
