Based on the bestselling Inspector Rebus novels by Ian Rankin, the new six part crime thriller series, Rebus, will land on the BBC later this month. Here’s everything to know so far.
A new adaptation of the bestselling Inspector Rebus novels by Ian Rankin is coming to the BBC later this month and it’s safe to say we’re excited. The six part crime thriller series, Rebus, focuses on John Rebus and explores family, morality and class set against the Scottish landmarks that readers of Rankin have grown to know well.

What is the plot of Rebus?
Set in Edinburgh, the series reimagines John Rebus as a younger detective sergeant drawn into a violent criminal conflict that turns personal when his brother Michael, a former soldier, crosses the line into criminality. In the ultimate dilemma, Rebus finds himself torn between protecting his brother and enforcing the law to bring Michael to justice.

Who stars in Rebus?
Alongside Richard Rankin as DS John Rebus, the series also stars Lucie Shorthouse (Line Of Duty, Ten Percent), Brian Ferguson (The Ipcress File), Amy Manson (The Diplomat), Neshla Caplan (The Rig), Noof Ousellam (Vigil), Stuart Bowman (Bodyguard), Caroline Lee Johnson (Ridley), Sean Buchanan (Mary Queen Of Scots), Thoren Ferguson (The Midwich Cuckoos) and Michelle Duncan (Baptise).
Ian Rankin, creator of the Rebus novels, said: “I’m thrilled that Rebus is coming to the BBC. A great cast and a compelling story – I really can’t wait for viewers to see it.”

When will Rebus be released?
All episodes will be available on BBC iPlayer from 6am on 17 May, with episode one airing on BBC Scotland on Friday 17 May and on BBC One on Saturday 18 May.
