Starring Emma Corrin, Jack Lowden and Olivia Colman, Netflix has announced that Jane Austen fans will be getting a new TV adaptation of Pride And Prejudice. Here’s everything to know about the new limited series so far.
Everyone has a favourite version of Pride And Prejudice. Maybe it’s Colin Firth’s 1995 portrayal of Mr Darcy in that famous lake scene or perhaps it’s Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen’s 2005 version of the epic love story. Well, Netflix has announced an all-new series that may add a new favourite to the mix. In a six-part limited series, Pride And Prejudice is being adapted for Netflix by Dolly Alderton, the writer behind Everything I Know About Love.
The series will be a faithful, classic adaptation of the novel, written by Alderton and directed by Euros Lyn (Heartstopper), and will be going into production in the UK in 2025. Alderton promises to bring Jane Austen’s iconic story to life for audiences that have long loved and cherished it, while inspiring a new generation to fall in love with Austen for the first time.
Austen’s beloved novels have captured the hearts of generations for over 200 years. In fact, this year, Austen would be celebrating her 250th birthday. Her most famous and widely read novel, Pride And Prejudice, has inspired countless writers and filmmakers with its sharp social commentary and timeless love story.
Emma Corrin (Nosferatu, Black Mirror) will star as Elizabeth Bennet; Jack Lowden (Slow Horses) takes on the role of Mr Darcy; and Olivia Colman (The Favourite, The Crown) will play Mrs Bennet.
Writer and executive producer Dolly Alderton said of the news: “Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story, and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it. Jane Austen’s Pride And Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy – it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life.”
Emma Corrin added: “Playing Elizabeth Bennet is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. To be able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside Olivia and Jack, with Dolly’s phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honour. I can’t wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again.”
