And this is a couple that is sitting on a lot of dangerous secrets, which is jarring (in a good way) when the series is set in such a quaint and idyllic neighbourhood. There’s even a secret room in their house, but I won’t say much more about what happens in there. Behind the happy families, beautiful houses and wholesome personas are layers upon layers of ulterior motives and things left unsaid. Not just from the Morgan family but from all the families involved in this real estate deal.

The series starts relatively slowly, but it really picks up the pace from the second episode onwards. Each episode is around 30 minutes, so they’re short and pacey, and the show features a star-studded cast that includes Linda Cardellini, Teyonah Parris, Abbi Jacobson, Luke Wilson and many more. But it’s Kudrow’s Lydia who steals the show. The actor balances the darkness and humour of her character brilliantly while also allowing the viewer to see her emotion and vulnerability, especially in the scenes when she’s grieving and talking to her son in his bedroom.

Back to those twists… I don’t want to give too much away but they come thick and fast towards the end of this real estate nightmare. And I wasn’t expecting them at all. I ended up rewinding some of the final episode because there were so many reveals, all of which were interconnected in some way. It reminded me of how I felt watching the Knives Out films, which this series does have some similarities to. Minus Daniel Craig’s iconic Benoit Blanc, of course.

No Good Deed isn’t the best show I’ve watched by any means, but it ticked a lot of boxes and I had fun watching it. If a witty but dark murder mystery is your kind of viewing choice, then this series is for you. Just make sure you have your remote handy so you can rewind and connect the dots.
