The first season reached the number one spot in Netflix’s global TV series list and stayed in the top 10 for six weeks. Now, the series has been renewed for a second season.
As we’re still reeling from the heart breaking and shocking finale of Supacell, Netflix has confirmed that the sci-fi series is to return for a second season. And we’re very excited that this emotional, gritty and entertaining series will be back for more.
Supacell ended its first season with Michael vowing to his superpowered allies Andre, Rodney, Sabrina and Tazer that “when I come back, they’re all gonna f**king pay” – referencing the dark and shadowy organisation that’s been stalking, manipulating and killing supacell holders. We won’t share too many spoilers but we do also say goodbye to a beloved character…
The first season reached the number one spot in Netflix’s global TV series list and stayed in the top 10 for six weeks. The series follows several Black Londoners from different backgrounds who find themselves developing different superpowers.
As they uncover their abilities, they use them to navigate the challenges they face in their daily lives while going toe to toe with a mysterious agency that seeks to capture, control and maybe even kill them. Over the course of the series, we find out that these superpowers are a mutation of the sickle cell genetic condition.
Not too much is known about the plot or story development for the second season but it’ll likely continue to explore each character’s life and journey with their powers, as well as figuring out why they’re being targeted by this secret and powerful organisation.
For the show’s creator, Rapman, what comes next in the Supacell story isn’t a mystery. “I’ve always had it [mapped out] to season three. I know how season two ends,” he told Netflix’s Tudum before the series premiered, adding, “I’ve got stuff planned for this story. I’ve had this in my head for years, so I’m ready to go.”
