Bonnie Garmus’s novel generated serious buzz when it was released in 2022, and it’s now getting the miniseries treatment, courtesy of Apple TV+ and Brie Larson.
Lessons In Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus was one of the most talked-about debut novels of last year, and now it’s getting the TV treatment, starring none other than Oscar winner Brie Larson in the lead role.
Garmus’s novel, a Sunday Times bestseller that was also nominated for Waterstones’s debut fiction prize last year, is set in the 60s and tells the story of Elizabeth Zott, a scientist who accepts a job hosting beloved cooking show Supper At Six after she is fired from her lab.
Her unusual approach to her new role wins over plenty of female fans and subtly inspires women to challenge the status quo.
A 60s period piece with a brilliant female heroine? We’re already on board. Here’s everything you need to know about Lessons In Chemistry.
What is Lessons In Chemistry about?
According to a synopsis from Apple TV+, Lessons In Chemistry follows Elizabeth Zott (played by Larson), whose dream of being a scientist is put on hold in a patriarchal society.
“When Elizabeth finds herself fired from her lab, she accepts a job as a host on a TV cooking show and sets out to teach a nation of overlooked housewives — and the men who are suddenly listening — a lot more than recipes.”

And is there a trailer?
Apple TV+ has just unveiled the official trailer from the show, which introduces Larson as Zott as she grapples with experiments and her TV show while balancing it all with motherhood and life at home.
When can we watch Lessons In Chemistry?
The first two episodes of Lessons In Chemistry are set to land on Apple TV+ on 13 October, with later instalments then debuting every Friday until 24 November (which gives you plenty of time to read Garmus’s novel, if you haven’t already).
