With K-Pop Idols, the documentary makers say it’s time to “pull back the curtain on the competitive world of K-pop and tell the human stories behind these incredible artists”.
2024 is well and truly the year of the music documentary. From I Am: Celine to The Beach Boys, not to mention Taylor Swift|The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version), we’ve been positively spoiled with musical goodies of late – and now we have K-Pop Idols on Apple TV+ to look forward to, too.
“Glitz meets grit as K-pop artists Jessi, CRAVITY and BLACKSWAN give everything they’ve got to an art form that demands nothing less than perfection,” promises the official synopsis.
“Over the course of six episodes, the series follows the superstars through trials and triumphs as they break down cultural and musical barriers in K-pop with passion, creativity and determination while they chase their dreams.”
Watch the trailer for K-Pop Idols below:
“With K-Pop Idols, our goal was to pull back the curtain on the highly competitive world of K-pop and reveal the human stories behind the stars,” said executive producer Elise Chung, who executive produced Bling Empire.
“This series is a tribute to the relentless passion and perseverance of artists like Jessi, CRAVITY and BLACKSWAN who are shaping the future of music on a global scale. We’re excited for viewers to experience the challenges, victories and everything in between that comes with chasing a dream as big as becoming a K-pop idol.”
Filmed across multiple countries, including South Korea, the US, and several parts of Europe, the six-part documentary aims to underline the enormous impact the genre is having upon the global music scene. And, considering it’s helmed by an Emmy Award-winning production team (think Todd Lubin and Jay Peterson of Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry fame, among others), we suspect this one will live rent-free in our minds long after the credits roll.
K-Pop Idols will be available on Apple TV+ from Friday 30 August.
