ITV will drop season two of The Tower later this month and has now confirmed a third season of the crime thriller series. Here’s everything you need to know about it.
As we sit patiently waiting for season two of The Tower to drop later this month, ITV has shared some exciting news that’s sure to brighten up even the gloomiest of days. A third season of the crime thriller series is official and has already begun filming.
The first season of The Tower had fans on the edge of their seats last year (and making a fair few Line Of Duty comparisons) and saw Tahirah Sharif nominated for a Bafta for her portrayal of PC Lizzie Adama. Even though season three has only just started filming, we’re sure it’ll be packed with the usual drama and high-stakes action that we’ve come to know and love from the world of Portland Tower.
So while you count down the days to season two, here’s everything you need to know about The Tower season three.
What is the plot of The Tower season three?
The new four-part series will be entitled The Tower 3: Gallowstree Lane and is based on Kate London’s third novel of the same name. It is being adapted by screenwriter Patrick Harbinson (Homeland, ER) and produced by his company Windhover Films and production company Mammoth Screen.
Harbinson said of the storylines in the new series: “Gallowstree Lane has a high-stakes drugs and gangs storyline with Jimmy and Emmett’s characters taking major roles. Sarah and Lizzie have gripping and heartbreaking stories too, as the drama of Portland Tower comes full circle.”
The second season of The Tower is due to premiere on ITV later this month and will focus on the antagonistic relationship between the experienced Sarah Collins and the novice cop Lizzie Adama as, according to the synopsis, they “are forced to work together for the first time and begin to get a sense of each other’s unique strengths”. And the complexity of these female characters is likely to also feature in the third season as they face new challenges in their work.
Who will star in The Tower season three?
The main cast will return once again for the third season. Gemma Whelan (Game Of Thrones) will be back as DS Sarah Collins and Tahirah Sharif (The Haunting Of Bly Manor) will play PC Lizzie Adama, alongside Emmett J Scanlan (Peaky Blinders) as DI Kieran Shaw and Jimmy Akingbola (Bel-Air) as DC Steve Bradshaw.
When and where will The Tower season three be available to watch?
Filming for the new series is currently underway. While a release date is yet to be announced, we’ll be sure to update you as soon as we know more.
