Based on Anne Rice’s bestselling novel, here’s what you need to know about Interview With The Vampire’s second season.
Fun fact: some of our very favourite TV shows are about vampires (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, What We Do In The Shadows, Midnight Mass – need we go on?), so of course we tuned in to watch – and were riveted by – Interview With The Vampire when it aired on BBC Two.
Billed as a “sumptuous reinvention of Anne Rice’s epic tale of seduction, blood and immortality”, the series followed Louis de Pointe du Lac, Lestat de Lioncourt and Claudia’s epic story of love, blood and the perils of being undead, as told to journalist Daniel Molloy.
It quickly proved a smash hit with viewers, scoring itself an eye-wateringly good 98% ‘fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes. And now, at long last, the second season is due to hit our screens… albeit at a time of year that doesn’t usually tend to sit well with vampiric sensibilities (clearly, the TV gods have decided the wet and wild weather we’ve been having is more than gothic enough to warrant it).

Ready to sink your fangs into this one? Here’s what you need to know.
What is Interview With The Vampire season 2 about?
The series will pick up the threads of the first season, as vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac – in the present day – recounts his life story to journalist Daniel Molloy. Which means, yes, he will delve back into the bloody events in New Orleans in 1940 before skipping across to Europe for a trip to Paris. A trip to Paris which, we hasten to add, sees Louis embark upon a love affair that will prove to have devastating consequences both in the past and in the future.
Who stars in Interview With The Vampire season 2?
Jacob Anderson, Eric Bogosian and Sam Reid will reprise their roles from the first season, while Delainey Hayles will take over the role of Claudia from Bailey Bass.
Assad Zaman will join the cast as Armand, a Parisian vampire, alongside David Constabile as seasoned TV personality Leonard. Roxane Duran and Bally Gill will also appear in recurring roles.
What are people saying about Interview With The Vampire season 2?
Speaking about the events of the upcoming second season with EW, Anderson explains: “We definitely stick to the second half of the book, and I’d say it’s faithful to the spirit and actually the literal plot. I love the first book, but the second half is not quite as dense as the first half, so the writers this season have definitely expanded on ideas that are hinted at or suggested in the second part of the book.”
He adds: “There are things that I can’t talk about in this season that were really challenging and really shocking to me, and I’ve learned a lot of things about Louis and myself… I can withstand more madness than I thought I could. It’s been really fulfilling and challenging and fun.”
When and where can we watch Interview With The Vampire season 2?
The first episode of season two will officially air on BBC Two at 9pm on Thursday 1 August, while the run will also be coming to BBC iPlayer on the same day.
