Trust us: everyone is going to be talking about new series I’m A Virgo.
Have you ever read the synopsis of a new TV series and thought to yourself, ‘I absolutely have to watch this’? So it was for me when I stumbled across I’m A Virgo for the very first time.
Lovingly described as “a mythical odyssey that questions the purpose of the mythical odyssey”, the dark coming-of-age comedy promises to be unlike anything we’ve seen before. And, as if that weren’t enough to lure you in, it’s also fronted by none other than Jharrel Jerome.
As in, yes, the very same Jharrel Jerome that broke all of our hearts with his powerhouse performance in Netflix’s When They See Us.

Intrigued? Of course you are.
Here’s what you need to know about I’m A Virgo.
What is I’m A Virgo about?
Ah, the million-dollar question. Ostensibly, the Boots Riley production is a Roald Dahl-esque tale about Cootie, a 13-foot-tall young Black man who, having grown up in almost total isolation, escapes to experience the beauty and contradictions of the real world.
It’s also, though, a biting anti-capitalist satire. A superhero drama. A commentary on the exploitation of Black bodies.
And it is, too, a love story. Hurrah.
Who stars in I’m A Virgo?
As mentioned already, the obscenely talented Jharrel Jerome takes the lead in this one as Cootie.
The cast also includes Brett Gray (On My Block), Kara Young (The Punisher), Allius Barnes (Cruel Summer), Olivia Washington (Breaking), Mike Epps (The Upshaws), and Carmen Ejogo (True Detective).
What are people saying about I’m A Virgo?
This is a series that has been described by critics as “kind of a mess (but in the best way)”, as “winningly bold”, and as a “big, intoxicating shot of imagination”.
Is it any surprise, then, that it’s already scored a 100% ‘fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes?
When and where can we watch I’m A Virgo?
The series – which features original music and score by art-pop duo Tune-Yards, – will become available for streaming via Prime Video on 23 June.
