Here’s everything we know so far about the forthcoming new Netflix documentary, Grenfell.
It’s difficult to believe that it’s been almost eight years since the Grenfell Tower tragedy that claimed the lives of 72 people in west London. Since then, there’s been a highly politicised inquiry alongside damming public accusations of negligence, but much of what occurred in the lead-up to that fateful day in June 2017 remains unknown.
Today, Netflix has announced it has commissioned a moving documentary, Grenfell [working title], featuring moving testimonies from survivors, families and firefighters. According to the official synopsis, “the documentary will unravel and document a series of events that took place in the years before the fire highlighting each warning and failing revealing it to be the inevitable result of government neglect and cynical industry practices.”
It’s not going to be an easy watch – but it’s an important one, nevertheless.
Who is involved in the documentary?
Produced by award-winning company Rogan Productions (the team behind The Search For Nicola Bulley), the hard-hitting documentary is directed by Olaide Sadiq, with executive producers James Rogan, Sandy Smith and Soleta Rogan, while the line producer is Emma Scott.
What’s being said about Grenfell?
Soleta Rogan, MD of Rogan Productions said: “We are immensely proud of the production team that has worked tirelessly to bring as many elements of the systemic failures to light as possible, and we are incredibly grateful to those affected by the tragedy in their various ways for sharing their stories and experiences with us.”
Olaide Sadiq, director, says: “It’s vital to convey the significance of the investigative findings, but we are equally committed to highlighting that Grenfell was a home – a place of comfort and safety for the residents – that was sadly compromised to the extent where people’s right to safety was stripped away. This film has been shaped by the voices of Grenfell’s bereaved and survivors, and those who fought for change long before the tragedy as well as after.”
When will Grenfell be available to watch?
Currently, there’s no scheduled release date for the programme. Details should be released in the upcoming months.
