Winter and romantic comedies are a match made in TV heaven, so we’re all kinds of excited about Film Club, a new BBC romantic comedy-drama co-created and co-written by star of The White Lotus and Sex Education Aimee Lou Wood (who also stars in the show) and co-star Ralph Davis (House Of The Dragon). What’s the plot of Film Club

Promising to be a witty and emotional show about love, the official synopsis for Film Club sets the scene: “Friday night. 7pm. Film Club Week 198. Evie hasn’t left the house in six months after a ‘wobble’, and Film Club is her escape. A weekly chance to create a world of wonder, deck the garage out in whatever the movie calls for and spend a few uninterrupted hours with Noa, her best friend and one of the few mates who still shows up.

“But tonight, things are different. Noa’s got big news. A dream job is taking him across the other side of the country, which means that all of this is ending. That reality is hitting. That they’re going to be forced to consider for the first time they might be more than just friends. Neither of them are the best when it comes to emotions, but this time, those emotions might be impossible to ignore.”

We can’t wait.

What are people saying about Film Club

“We couldn’t be more excited and grateful to the incredible team we have assembled with the BBC,” Wood says. “To bring this to life with Nabhaan and Suranne, two exceptional actors I have always admired, is a real honour.” Jones agrees, saying: “I’ve loved Aimee for a while now and think she is a beautifully real, honest and brilliantly funny talent, so it was no surprise the script she and Ralph Davis have created was the same. It’s smart, sweet and punchy. I can’t wait to be her tiger mum… and I get to film in my home town too.”

Alison Jackson, president of Gaumont UK and executive producer on Film Club, says: “We are delighted to announce these wonderful actors – we couldn’t be more thrilled to have our dream cast for this precious show. It’s a real reflection of the fabulous scripts, and we can’t wait to bring them to life.”

Lindsay Salt, the director of BBC Drama, added: “We’re so happy to welcome Nabhaan, Suranne and this incredibly exciting cast. Aimee and Ralph’s heartwarming, feel-good and utterly charming scripts have made Film Club a hot ticket for BBC viewers, and we can’t wait for it to arrive on BBC iPlayer and BBC Three next year.”

When can we watch Film Club

Film Club recently wrapped filming in Manchester and will air later this year on BBC iPlayer and BBC Three.
