Eva Longoria is coming back to TV screens in a female-centred dramedy

Eva Longoria heads to Spain for her new TV series about three generations of women on the run. Here’s what we know so far…

It’s been 20 (long) years since Desperate Housewives first appeared on our screens. A camp TV show about (often) unlikeable women who were simmering with rage, had desires and found ways to exert power when they didn’t really have any. At its centre was Eva Longoria as bold, selfish, passionate and unapologetic Gabrielle Solis, swathed in fuchsia.

And so I’m utterly thrilled that Longoria is returning to our TV screens once more. Land of Women, a comedy-drama-thriller hybrid coming to Apple TV+, sounds right up my perfectly manicured yet dark and toxic street.

The six-part series will launch in June on Apple TV+ and, brilliant name aside, you’re probably wondering what to expect. Let’s get into it…

What is Land Of Women about?

Based on the novel of the same name by Sandra Barneda, the series is, as you might have guessed, all about women. Longoria plays Gala, whose perfect life implodes when her husband implicates the family in financial dodgy dealings. She goes on the run to northern Spain, to hide out.

Joining her is her teenage daughter and her mother, and the three generations settle in the same wine town that Gala’s mother grew up in 50 years before – and promised she’d never return to. The women try to keep their previous identities secret and embrace new lives, but gossip travels fast in small towns, and it’s not long before family secrets threaten to spill over like a bottle of shaken-up cava.

“It’s this multi-generational show about these three women who really don’t know each other, even though it’s grandma, mother and daughter,” Longoria told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s like they’re strangers to each other and this adventure leads them back to each other.”

Not only does the plot sound brilliantly compelling, but the series has been shot in both English and Spanish, so you can put all that Duolingo practice to the test…

Who is in Land Of Women?

Longoria both stars in and executive produces this six-part series (which we’re impressed she found time for, as she is also joining the cast for season four of Only Murders In The Building). Acclaimed Spanish actor Carmen Maura (Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown or Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios) joins as Gala’s mother, while newcomer Victoria Bazúa plays Longoria’s teen daughter.

When can I watch Land Of Women?

The series will premiere on Apple TV+ on 26 June with two episodes. The four remaining episodes will drop weekly afterwards. Until then you can watch the trailer here…
