As season two of Euphoria unfolds, the fan theories continue to grow, but some in particular are making fans of the HBO drama stop and take notice.

Euphoria continues to delight, shock and surprise viewers each week.

From surprise romances, sympathetic backstories and some pretty iconic style moments, the HBO drama has us all firmly in the Euphoria-related pandemonium that we’ve come to expect of the series.

With the plotlines getting a little wilder and the characters never quite doing what you think they’re going to do – our eyes are on Cassie in season two, for example – fans have been quick to share their views on how they think the raucous second season will end.

For the non-Euphoria fans among us, the series follows a group of high school students as they struggle with drugs, love, social media and money, and come of age while trying to establish their identity.

While the series is already off to an intriguing start, we’ll have to wait a little longer to see if these theories will actually come to fruition. One thing’s for certain about many of these internet ramblings, though, they do have us pondering the impossible.

Euphoria fans don’t come to play – after all, they do have their own dedicated subreddit (r/euphoria) which is brimming with theories galore.

We’ve done the hard graft of looking through the very of best of them to provide you with a succinct guide. Are you strapped in?

Rue is actually dead

OK, bear with us here. We know Rue is the main character and we see the events of the series through her eyes but… what if she’s actually dead? This theory has been one that’s been doing the rounds since season one aired, and even with the new series, is one that doesn’t look like it’s disappearing any time soon.

As Rue narrates the series, viewers have been quick to note how she knows everything – what her friends and family think and feel – and not only does it make her omniscient, it also makes the position of her as the show’s narrator a questionable one.

Apparently, Rue being dead all along was the big plot twist in the original Israeli show that HBO’s Euphoria is based on, according to Reddit user u/hyoies. With subreddits on the topic dating back to the very beginning of Euphoria, we’ll just have to watch and see if Rue has actually just been doing a stellar job of convincing us all this time.

Rue will die

Rue, Rue, Rue. Well, of course, many of the fan theories revolve around Euphoria’s main character – we’re steadily figuring out that she’s an unreliable narrator and she also seems to be undertaking more risks this season, so we’re all on the edge of our seats wondering what could become of Rue at the end of season two.

Spoiler alert: many fans think she’s going to die.

Eagle-eyed Reddit user Mularising has pointed to the fact that Rue’s narration is all done in the past tense. As well as this, they note, Rue clearly doesn’t demonstrate that she cares about her life – but also, the first shot of Euphoria begins with Rue’s birth – a foreshadowing full-circle moment that could signal the series will conclude with her death.

While we don’t want to believe that Euphoria’s main character could be killed off, Rue’s recent drug dealing debacles could hint at a not-so-nice outcome that many of us may not expect.

Maddy will end up pregnant with Nate’s baby

One of the main pulls of this second season is the drama that will likely ensue once Maddy learns of Nate and Cassie’s covert love affair.

But what if the whole love triangle gets even more convoluted with Maddy getting pregnant?

TikTok users have been latching on to this theory in droves but Reddit user Manicbarbb says that season two is already brimming with pregnancy hints: Maddy saying she’d look cute pregnant, Cassie’s abortion and Maddy’s new babysitting job. Of course, this would be terrible for Cassie who, unfortunately, is infatuated with Nate. But Reddit user Dva-is-online also thinks that, perhaps, Maddy already knows she’s pregnant.

They write: “She refused to smoke weed at the NYE party. She may have made that comment about looking sexy pregnant to test the waters with her friends. She also seems to be a lot more serious about fixing things with Nate this season. Could be because she feels like she has to due to having a baby?”

Elliot and Jules will end up together

There’s been a lot of speculation surrounding newbie Elliot – is he trying to break up Rue and Jules? Is he leading Rue down a path of self-destruction?

Many fans seem to think – especially after the third episode saw him and Jules grow closer – that it will actually be Elliot and Jules that will end up as a pair.

Some intrigued viewers of the show have offered up the possibility of Elliot as a type of extended metaphor. Reddit user One_Ad5577 said that in promotional interviews, Zendaya has admitted that Elliot actually represents the part of Rue that we’re currently seeing come back.

Their lengthy (but enthralling) hypothesis continues:

“Him coming into her life is, in a way, signifying her relapse and reintegration of drugs back into her life.

“It wouldn’t be all that surprising to me if the writers turned Elliot and Jules’ connection into a side-by-side plot with Rue falling further into addiction. Like, as Rue spirals, Elliot and Jules get closer and closer or start hooking up.

“If Elliot is supposed to represent drugs, him taking away Jules from Rue would show that Rue can’t have it all. She can’t have both Jules and drugs because having one means losing the other.”

Elliot will actually die

It seems as though death is definitely on the cards for this season, according to many viewers. As well as thinking Rue will die, a lot of other fans think that newbie Elliot will actually meet a sorry fate instead.

Since Rue is the lead character, many don’t believe that she’ll die, but do think someone close to her may die instead. In a thread entitled “Rue’s fate?”, Reddit user Street-Astronaut thinks that the third season will focus on Rue’s journey to rehabilitation, which will be prompted by Elliot’s death.

They add: “Since they’re using together in this season (most likely) this might be that wake up call for Rue to become sober.”

Reddit user Worried-Special-658 agrees and thinks it will be Elliot to die, stating that “someone in Rue’s life has to OD so that she is inspired to get clean.”

They also went on to underline the fact that away from Euphoria, Dominic Fike is a successful singer so “he can’t really afford to be a series regular on Euphoria unless he plans on giving up his music career.” You can’t argue with that logic, right?

Fez will die

Admittedly, when I came across this fan theory, I did gasp a little. Just thinking of Fez coming to any danger is enough to elicit the same reaction from many Euphoria fans – he is undoubtedly many people’s favourite. But even so, there are those that think this season will end tragically for Fez.

Reddit user Lilynd14 thinks that Fez will be the one to die this season. They say: “He’s the closest to danger of all the characters through his line of work, plus he’s been so lovable this season that it would be maximum impact if he was to die.”

Fez’s house will be raided by police and hell either end up in prison or worse

Observant viewers have been quick to go back to the series trailer and note one tense scene with Fez and Ashtray. User Junishr00m thinks that Fez will get arrested and the scene in the trailer is him saying goodbye to Ash.

Knowing how protective Fez is, they go on to explain how Fez will likely take the blame for everything Ash has done – for example, killing Mouse. That means one lengthy life sentence…

Another eager Reddit user, Few-Inflation-1626, said that a Euphoria stuntman has posted behind-the-scenes pictures of a police raid happening at Fez’s house.

They add: “There are over 50 shells in one picture confirming that some gunfire is exchanged. Sam Levinson planned to kill off Fez in season one but kept him around to show his backstory, but that doesn’t mean he won’t kill him off in future seasons.”

Ethan is the anonymous client from Kat’s website

While there’s been a lot of speculation around Kat’s plotline this season (potentially hinting at drama with Euphoria creator Sam Levinson), a lot of fans remain convinced that there’s something bigger coming for Kat and Ethan.

We know that Kat feels bad about not liking Ethan – but remains in a relationship with him – and Reddit users are full of speculation and thoughts. One of the main ones being that Ethan could potentially be Kat’s anonymous subscriber from season one. User Schmoolecka thinks that Kat may find out about his double identity and some big drama could follow, potentially with Ethan turning toxic and stalking her.

One wilder theory is that the wealthy client could actually be Ethan’s dad – he’s wealthy and it could be the reason why the meeting between Ethan’s parents and Kat went so awkwardly.

Faye is working undercover to catch Fez

Even though Fez has generally kept his circle very small, this season has seen him take in Faye after she murdered a motel manager. It’s a weird turn of events but exposes an even deeper caring side of Fez that fans are loving. However, what if Faye isn’t to be trusted at all?

If the rumours of a possible season two raid are true, who will be the person to tip off the police? Suspicious viewers think Faye shouldn’t be ignored and could actually be the cause for the main drama of the season, as user WifeAggro states. In a thread dedicated to theories about Faye’s plotline, they go on to state that Faye could be “the cause of a crazy chain reaction”.

Similarly, user JuliaDeYoung thinks Faye could be an undercover officer, working to take down Fez and Ashtray. User AllAboutThisLife also points out the fact that Faye has asked Fez about Mouse’s death and was very sure to note Cal’s name. Could her addiction be a façade for something more sinister?

User martatrivi thinks so and poses the theory that the cops actually found her in the air ventilator of the motel and sent her to spy on Fez as an informant instead of prosecuting her.
