Drops Of God – based on the bestseller of the same name – is set in the world of fine wine. And, quite honestly, it sounds brilliant.
If you asked me to name the TV show that I’m most excited to watch this year, I’d likely panic and run away (I mean, c’mon: there’s so much good stuff on at the moment!). What I can say, though, is this: I have a very good feeling about Drops Of God. A very good feeling indeed.
Inspired by bestselling manga from the award-winning Tadashi Agi and Shu Okimoto, it spins a truly compelling story about oenology – or, if you’re not clued up on your ‘ologies, the science of wine.
The result? A deliciously boozy mystery and genuinely thrilling human drama.

When you consider the fact that the original text has proven a hit not just all over Asia, but in France, too, you’d better believe this TV adaptation is going to be a VBD.
Here’s what you need to know.
What’s Drops Of God all about?
Adapted for TV by French-Vietnamese writer Quoc Dang Tran (Call My Agent), the series begins as the world of gastronomy and fine wines goes into mourning: Alexandre Léger, creator of the famous Léger Wine Guide and emblematic figure in oenology, has passed away at his home in Tokyo at the age of 60.
His daughter, Camille – who lives in Paris – hasn’t seen her father since her parents separated when she was nine years old. When she flies to Japan and Léger’s will is read, however, she discovers that he has left her an extraordinary wine collection. So extraordinary, in fact, that experts have dubbed it the greatest collection in the world.
There’s a catch, however. In order to claim her inheritance, Camille must compete with a brilliant young oenologist, Issei Tomine… no small feat, considering she knows nothing about wine and has never drunk a single drop of the stuff.

“Biological daughter versus spiritual son: the duel is about to begin,” promises the official synopsis.
“There are three tests to break the tie, all related to wine tasting. The winner will take ownership of Léger’s empire, the loser will leave empty handed.”
The stakes have never been higher, quite frankly.
Who stars in Drops Of God?
This trilingual (English, French and Japanese) series is led by Fleur Geffrier as Camille Léger and Tomohisa Yamashita as Issei Tomine.
They are joined by the likes of Makiko Watanabe, Satoshi Nikaido, Antoine Chappey, Tom Wozniczka, Diego Ribon, Gustave Kernern, and plenty more talented stars, too.
What are people saying about Drops Of God?
Speaking about the project, executive producer Anne Thomopoulos tells Broadcast that the “specificity” of the wine world, and the perhaps “unlikely pairing” of Franco-Japanese cultures, melds nicely with the “universality of a family drama” to present a premium series with recognisable themes for buyers and viewers alike.
“Gastronomy and ideas of the production and value of food are things people are much more in touch with now,” says Thomopoulos.
“Being locked up in our houses during the pandemic has allowed us to appreciate pleasures like wine.”
When can we watch Drops Of God?
Drops Of God will become available to stream via Apple TV+ on 21 April.
