Channel 4’s Suspect was the channel’s biggest crime drama of 2021 and it’s returning for a second season this week. Here’s everything we know so far.

If there’s one thing you can never have too many of, it’s gritty crime dramas: Channel 4’s The Gathering had us on the edge of our seats, we’re eagerly anticipating the release of A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder and we can’t wait for BBC’s detective drama The Jetty to air later this year.

So imagine our excitement when we heard that a first look at a second series of Suspect, the twisty series from 2021 that starred James Nesbitt as veteran detective Danny Frater, has been released. The show was Channel 4’s biggest drama launch of that year, which means the bar is set high for a twisty and compelling second season.

Intrigued? Here’s everything we know so far.

What is the plot of Suspect season two?

The second season picks up where the first left off, with Anne-Marie Duff (Bad Sisters, The Salisbury Poisonings) returning as Dr Susannah Newman, now on a desperate quest to track down a self-confessed serial killer before he kills again that night. When a mysterious new client Jon (Dominic Cooper) admits under hypnosis that he is a murderer and is intent on killing another young woman that evening, Susannah knows he must be stopped at all costs.

When he escapes before the police arrive – and as her former lover Detective Superintendent Richard Grove (Ben Miller) refuses to take action – Susannah is forced to embark on her own deadly mission.

Expect lots of twists, turns and revelations alongside more questions to be answered.
