Netflix has just announced a TV adaptation of How To Kill Your Family, which will see Anya Taylor-Joy take on the role of Grace Bernard, the murderous protagonist.

A witty, dark and twisted thriller? Sign us up. Especially if Bella Mackie is behind it, which is certainly the case here. Her bestselling novel, How To Kill Your Family, has sold over 1.2 million copies since its debut in 2021 and is now being adapted for television. At the Edinburgh TV Festival, Netflix announced several new projects, including the new How To Kill Your Family series, which will see Anya Taylor-Joy take on the role of the murderous protagonist, Grace.

So, here’s everything we know so far about the Netflix series, How To Kill Your Family.

What is the plot of Netflix’s How To Kill Your Family?

The series follows Grace Bernard, a woman with a pretty complicated family. Her dad is Simon Artemis; a billionaire and ruthless social climber. She’s the product of an affair he claims he doesn’t remember and Grace and her mum were left to fend for themselves. When her mother dies and she’s rejected by the very people who should love her, Grace transforms her anger into something useful: killing off this estranged extended family via morbidly creative means.

Grace is clawing her way towards revenge and a hefty inheritance, but her mission only pulls her further away from what it is she really needs.

Who will star in Netflix’s How To Kill Your Family?

Anya Taylor-Joy (Furiosa, The Queen’s Gambit) is set to star as Grace. “As soon as I turned the last page, I knew I had to be a part of bringing this story to life. After some (light) stalking of the inimitable Bella Mackie, I could not be more thrilled to be collaborating with the team… I am looking forward to getting our hands even dirtier,” the actor said.

The eight part series will see Emma Moran (Extraordinary) at the helm as lead writer.

On the television adaptation, Mackie also said: “It’s been thrilling to watch the characters I wrote take on new life under this magnificent creative team. Anya is the most perfect fit to play Grace: I often think she understands her better than I do”.
