One of our all-time favourite dramas, The Split, is back – and this time it’s heading north.
It’s been nearly two years since that devastating finale of The Split, which saw the end of the marriage between Hannah and Nathan (Nicola Walker and Stephen Mangan), Nina (Annabel Scholey) attending an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting and Rose (Fiona Button) meeting the man who’d been given her husband’s heart after a fatal accident. And we haven’t even touched on the legal battles.
So we’re just about ready to return to the world of conscious and/or unconscious coupling among the ultra-rich – and the lives of the lawyers who guide them through it. And the show’s creator Abi Morgan has handed over the divorce papers to a new team as the drama heads to Manchester for a spin-off series, The Split Up.
Here’s everything we know so far…

What is the plot of The Split Up?
The upcoming six-part series has a new writer, Ursula Rani Sarma (Smother, Delicious), who has moved the action to Manchester. The series will centre on Kishan Law, a British-Asian high-net-worth family law firm, which is the go-to destination for people after excellence, integrity and discretion. However, behind closed doors things aren’t quite as glossy, and a hidden family secret threatens to derail proceedings.
“I was honoured to be asked to create The Split Up, a spin-off which introduces a whole new family and city while still holding on to the warmth, humour and heartbreak of Abi Morgan’s original series,” says Rani.
“To be able to place a contemporary British-Asian family, helmed by brilliant women, at the heart of a primetime drama series is a dream come true for me as a writer who believes strongly in the importance of representation on our screens.”
