BBC’s Cheaters is coming back for a second season – here’s everything we know so far

Susan Wokoma and Joshua McGuire are back as Fola and Josh, the complicated almost-couple at the centre of BBC comedy Cheaters.

Right now, it’s safe to say that we’re living through a very good period of TV. Between Vicky McClure’s upcoming project Insomnia, flight-based ITV thriller Red Eye, season two of Apple TV’s Bad Sisters and chilling Netflix drama Baby Reindeer, the line-up really is looking stellar. Even season three of Bridgerton is nearly upon us for all your period drama needs.

But if your watchlist is looking a little bit light on comedies, fear not: the BBC has announced the return of its hilarious series Cheaters for a second season.

So if Cheaters series one asked if an affair can ever be ‘the right thing to do’, the second series takes a look at what happens next. Can a relationship that started as an affair ever transcend its messy beginnings? Here’s everything we know so far.

What is the plot of Cheaters season 2?

Prepare for romantic complications that are hilarious and compelling in equal measure.

In Cheaters series one, strangers Josh (Joshua McGuire) and Fola (Susan Wokoma) met in an airport later and struck up a drunken conversation in a bar after their flight from Finland was delayed. Drinks led to flirting and flirting led to sex. Pretty good sex, actually. Afterwards, Josh was full of awkward regret, while Fola was matter-of-fact. Josh couldn’t get his long-term girlfriend, Esther (Callie Cooke), out of his mind, but Fola admitted in the morning that she had a husband of her own, Zack (Jack Fox). The two flew back to England – only to find out that they’re new neighbours…

Series two, then, will pick up a few months after the first left off. After the adrenaline of their affair, Josh and Fola’s relationship has blossomed, and they’re closer than ever. But with her divorce from Zack not even finalised, Fola is keen to take things slow – not exactly Josh’s speed. Josh is a ball of anxiety when it comes to tough conversations, and he finds himself going to extreme (and unwise) lengths to ‘give her some space’. Meanwhile, with Zack quietly determined to win Fola back, and Josh’s scorned ex-girlfriend Esther returning from her travels at long last, the stage is set for some big decisions on all sides.
