If you’re in need of a new crime drama, look no further than Jake Gyllenhaal’s upcoming thriller, Presumed Innocent. The limited series, which is set to be released on Apple TV+ next month, now has its first teaser trailer – and we’re already hooked.

Based on Scott Turow’s best-selling novel of the same name, the eight-part series follows chief deputy prosecutor Rusty Sabich (Gyllenhaal), a married man and respected officer, who starts an affair with a woman named Carolyn.

However, his domestic and professional life are thrown into disarray when Carolyn is murdered, and Rusty becomes one of the lead suspects. 

There’s plenty of tension packed into the one-minute teaser, which documents the twisted journey that Gyllenhaal’s character goes on.

“Love isn’t what people tell you that it is,” he says in a voice over, as the haunting trailer begins, “in my experience, it’s just something that grows. Until one day, you just find yourself needing someone, that’s how it was with Carolyn.”

What follows is a montage of their passionate affair, but as their relationship becomes more heated, there seems to be an altercation between the two lovers. Before the chilling chimes of the music stops altogether, an officer drops the bombshell: “Were you aware that Carolyn was murdered?”

There’s also glimpses of the murder trial, which Rusty attends with his wife, played by Good Grief’s Ruth Negga, as well as their seemingly happy family life with their children. 

The thriller, which is also produced by Gyllenhaal, is rounded out with a strong ensemble cast featuring Bill Camp, Elizabeth Marvel, Peter Sarsgaard, O-T Fagbenle and Renate Reinsve.

Presumed Innocent will stream on Apple TV+ on June 12.
