From Off Menu to Table Manners, these are the food-inspired podcasts we can’t get enough of.

Are you keen to find out what dishes your favourite celebrity reckons are all-timers? Perhaps you fancy learning what really goes into pulling together a Michelin-starred menu?

Every meal, whether it’s a fast-food classic, a childhood staple or a high-end delicacy, has a story behind it, and some of the most fascinating food podcasts around are delving into those tales. Plus, there’s something about talking over a good meal that seems to set interviewees at ease, resulting in open, honest chats.

From star-studded old favourites to exciting new launches, these are some of our favourite food-inspired listens (just be warned: some of these might make your stomach rumble).

Bitter/Sweet podcast

Bitter/Sweet

As the founder of taste branding consultancy Miller Libertine, it’s fair to say that Natasha Miller knows her stuff when it comes to food. Her latest venture is the podcast Bitter/Sweet, which debuted last month and sees Miller’s guests share profound recollections based around a seriously memorable meal. So far, she has spoken with the likes of Jeremy King, the restaurateur who launched venues like The Wolseley and The Delaunay; fashion critic Tim Banks; and creative director Anna Burns.

Seasoned podcast

Seasoned

Michelin-starred Tommy Banks is the owner of The Black Swan in the North Yorkshire village of Oldstead, a restaurant that’s all about seasonal ingredients, sourced from Banks’ family farm. In his new podcast Seasoned, Banks shares exactly what goes into crafting this impressive menu, helped out by a special guest. Recent instalments have seen Clara Amfo join Banks at his second restaurant, Roots, to make cruffins (that’s a delicious croissant-muffin hybrid, FYI) and Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers learning how to craft a perfect burger.

In their wildly successful podcast, comedians James Acaster and Ed Gamble usher guests into their ‘dream restaurant’, and quiz them about their ideal meal, from starter to dessert. Hilarity – and chaos – generally ensues, with recent guests including the likes of Lily Allen, actor-slash-Instagram cooking guru Florence Pugh, Strictly judge Motsi Mabuse and legendary chef Yotam Ottolenghi.

Table Manners

Jessie Ware and her irrepressible mum, Lennie, host a revolving line-up of celebrity guests, inviting them round for a home-cooked meal and some chatter, touching on everything from food to fame to family. Lenny’s hilarious asides (including her ongoing hesitancy when it comes to plant-based dishes) and direct manner are always a highlight; there are plenty of podcasts that promise to be like listening in on a conversation between close pals, but Table Manners feels like the real deal.

The Food Chain

This podcast from the BBC’s World Service delves into the business and science behind what we eat, as well as unpicking its social significance and asking what exactly it takes to get food on our plate. Out to Lunch with Jay Rayner

Out to Lunch With Jay Rayner

Each episode of Out To Lunch sees The Observer’s long-standing restaurant critic Jay Rayner joined by a celebrity guest at a lunch venue of his choice - and there’s something about the combination of good food, a relaxed location and flowing wine that makes a star open up in a way that they might not do in a more traditional studio set-up (which often leads to a refreshingly no-holds-barred chat). Rayner’s recent fellow diners include Richard E Grant, Line Of Duty’s Adrian Dunbar and Meera Syal.
