From Off Menu to Table Manners, these are the eight tastiest food podcasts to listen to if you’re in need of some culinary inspiration.
These cold and gloomy winter evenings call for one thing: warm, comforting food.
But if you’re constantly stuck for what to rustle up in the kitchen – there’s only so much soup one person can make, after all – and need some culinary inspiration, then look no further than these delicious podcasts.
From funny dinner conversations with a glass of wine to heated debates around the table on what foods would qualify for a last meal, these are eight of the best podcasts to listen to before you pop to the shop to pick up dinner, curated in our new Stylist Loves section on Apple Podcasts.
Dish
Combining the arts of delicious food and compelling conversation, Dish recently returned for a fourth season with hosts Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett throwing even more dinner parties with an impressive lineup of famous faces.
Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware
Yes, it’s quite the family affair with this podcast. Mother and daughter duo Jessie and Lennie chat about all things food, family, music and everything in between, with Lennie also cooking up a bite to eat for their weekly guests. Recent episodes have featured Zoe Ball, Ed Gamble and Miriam Margolyes sitting around Jessie’s very own dinner table.
Off Menu with Ed Gamble and James Acaster
Off Menu has become one of those iconic podcasts that we simply cannot stop listening to, combining the world of food and comedy into the perfect mix. In each episode, comedians and co-hosts Gamble and Acaster invite a celebrity guest onto the show to talk about their all-time favourite starter, main, dessert and drinks. Oh, and there’s also a secret ingredient the hosts choose that the guest has to avoid mentioning (even though guests aren’t privy to this information, of course) or they’ll get thrown out of the imaginary restaurant.
Stirring It Up with Andi and Miquita Oliver
Another mother-daughter duo but this time in the form of the podcast Stirring It Up. With delicious food made by Andi and drinks created by Miquita, the pair welcome a guest – and a plus-one of their choice – to feast on food and conversation around their kitchen table. Recent episodes have featured the likes of Nick Grimshaw, Annie Mac and Lily Allen.
The Food Chain
If you’ve always wanted to dig into your dinner plate and where exactly our food comes from, then look no further than the BBC’s The Food Chain. From unpacking the relationship between politics and national dishes to delving into what the best pasta shape is, this podcast has all your food questions and queries covered.
Ruthie’s Table 4
Set in London’s The River Cafe, Ruthie Rogers sits down with customers and friends to take a trip down (food) memory lane – exploring how food impacts so many parts of our lives. Guests are invited to talk about everything from first date dinners to the comfort food they always come back to, as well as reading their favourite recipe from one of the River Cafe cookbooks.
Comfort Eating with Grace Dent
The Guardian’s food critic Grace Dent is a big believer in food shaping each and every one of us and our journey through life. This is very much reflected in each episode of her podcast, Comfort Eating, where Dent gets to know each of her celebrity guests through the lens of food.
Desert Island Dishes
Ever thought about your dream dinner party? Or maybe what your last ever meal would consist of? Those are exactly the kind of questions that chef Margie Nomura poses in this podcast, as well as chatting to a guest in each episode about the seven dishes that have shaped their lives and the stories behind them. Recent guests on Desert Island Dishes have included Rick Stein and Ed Gamble.
